Dear lichfield22; thank you for bringing joy to the site while (somehow) retaining your sanity. You imply the buyer of your house is a single woman...

...in which case it might be unkind - a bit like punishing a vulnerable victim - to refer her anonymously to the URL of this thread, as one of your supporters suggested half-way through the saga.

Especially as I wonder how Daddy will approach the process of guiding her future decisions on carpets, curtains, kitchens...

... or perhaps more crucially... a spouse or partner?

And when the film rights are sold, I do hope you get Kate Winslet
  • Kate Winslet is a little old for the role surely? I was thinking of emma watson - a serious young lady who is clever but when it comes to the 'common sense' side of things needs a guiding hand..... haha!

Well done on keeping your sanity x

    Paid off all Catalogues 10.10.2014
  • Of course in the film version, OP would meet demented daddy and it would turn out that underneath his hi-vis jacket and awful personality is a kind heart and a set of rock hard abs. They will fall head over heels in love over his clipboard - It would be called "Completion of the heart" :rotfl:

The buyer is in her 40s. We now know Daddy Disaster is smallish. So I vote Emma Thompson, who is a bit older but wearing well, with David Jason as the nutty dad.

Oh I'm not sure about that. If we're going to have Emma Watson playing the OP then a romance with David Jason would be wildly inappropriate.
I suggest Channing Tatum as demented dad, we can spray his hair grey to make the age convincing.

I was having Emma as deluded daughter. And sorry I forgot the romance angle - maybe OP falls for the handsome solicitor !!! knight in shining armour who sorts everything out for her instead? Sorry OP, we've airbrushed your OH out. In my version everything is set up for a spin off sitcom focussing on demented dad and downtrodden daughter. A sort of Some Mothers do have 'em for the 21st century.

Edited to add that I did not put a naughty word in there, I put a perfectly good 3 letter Latin one and mse is being over sensitive.

Thank you so, so much, everyone but especially you, Lichfield. I am so glad things worked out for you; you must have the patience of a saint. I have now embarked on the great dane one and can hardly see for crying with laughter, which is something I desperately need, right now. This is therapy, thank you so much again.

Well my goodness I have no idea how I missed the caravan in the drive thread at the time, but it has taken me all day to read it! Luckily my iPad ran out of juice after about 40 pages so putting it on charge gave me time to sort out and label the kids' new school uniforms which was supposed to be this Morning's job! Bit of a marathon - I've finally finished the second half!
