I have been away for a few days and only just discovered this thread. Having read it right through it just reflects what a fabulous community we have here, and the thread is the best ever.
The only thing I can think of that would improve things is to suddenly find the existence of two parallel threads, one from daughter and one from daddy
Well done OP, enjoy your new house.0 -

I remember the first vividly as it was the first time I laughed since getting divorced. I even wrote to the poster to thank them for entertaining me.
Wasn't there one about the horses buried in the garden? Had me crying when I read that one! Someone must remember it? X0 -
I followed the bag for life dog story and was mesmerised. Please point me to the caravan story I need a good book to read :-)
Little Mrs Thrifty posted the links to both threads, I'll track and quote for you.
These were a great read at the time 😁LittleMrsThrifty wrote: »This thread has reminded me a little of

Well, I have just spent most of the day today so far reading this entire thread, and will be starting on the dog and caravan threads next, so, Lichfield, expect to be hearing from my solicitor soon, regarding my suit for damages for not having done all the things I had intended to do today!
Seriously, I do hope you've asked the solicitor and EA to keep you in the loop with regard to the future demands Mr. W will be making!
I also hope your neighbour will keep you updated, as I'm sure they'll become the street's Neighbours From Hell, complaining to everyone about all and sundry.
My feeling was to concur with the suggestion made that the father was buying it as a buy-to-let in his daughter's name, to evade the Stamp Duty, so keep an eye out to see if a To Let sign goes up, and once it changes to a Let By sign, report it to the HMRC.
They shouldn't be allowed to get away with that.
(Of course, he may let it privately, in which case you wouldn't know for sure, even if the daughter doesn't appear to be living there. However, as you know her name, you get could get her rented flat number from the electoral roll. If she carries on living there, while other people are in the house you sold her, QED).
But whatever you do, I'm so very glad it all worked out all right, and that you got the house you wanted.:T :T
It does highlight the fact that the system of buying a house in England is not wonderful. There was talk some years ago of trying to switch to the Scottish system, where all the checks are done before you make an offer, and once an offer is accepted, it's legally binding on both parties. No gazumping, no renegotiation of price, etc.
Nothing came of it, though.
Anyway, well done!
(Now, where did I put my solicitor's number?(I just lurve spiders!)

I've written about the horse burial inspector coming to do his inspection, around a year after we moved in, and some years later than he ought to have visited, but it wasn't a thread.
His visit was very real and certainly demonstrative of the relaxed attitude people have in this part of Devon.
Just for the record, I now have a reasonably accurate official map showing where the horses were laid to rest, but neither is within my garden, although I have2 cats and 2 ferrets interred there.0
