Lady .... Woah. My saga looks nothing in comparison to what your sister and BIL went through. The whole thing is incomprehensible, especially the bit where the ex-owner then rented the house out! Is it possible that she somehow still thought she owned it?! I cannot see how though.
A friend reminded me today of a long forgotten story we both knew of another friend who had the opposite situation I'm fearing - rather than a buyer who thought the vendor should still be responsible for the property, this friend had a seller who didn't seem to be able to loosen their grip after completion. Apparently he would call around and check what they were doing with 'his' house and they think he might have kept taking plants from the garden for weeks after completing and leaving it all there although they can't prove it. One afternoon months after completion, they were digging a small trench in the garden to put down a decorative concrete border, and the ex-owner suddenly popped up from nowhere yelling that it looked like they were digging foundations and did they have planning permission for that extension. They explained they weren't foundations and politely asked him to stop coming round, only to get a visit from the council a week later who had had a mystery report of them building an extension without permission.
Maybe I should pop back to my old place and check they haven't changed a single thing yet?

The Bag For Life thread was about the dog buried in the garden.
I've written about the horse burial inspector coming to do his inspection, around a year after we moved in, and some years later than he ought to have visited, but it wasn't a thread.
His visit was very real and certainly demonstrative of the relaxed attitude people have in this part of Devon.
Just for the record, I now have a reasonably accurate official map showing where the horses were laid to rest, but neither is within my garden, although I have2 cats and 2 ferrets interred there.
Just checking, is that in the dog buried in the garden/bag for life thread? Makes me laugh just thinking about it !0 -
Not sure how I missed this entire thread! Glad it all worked out for you - although I really doubt it's the end of the saga!
Good luck

Just checking, is that in the dog buried in the garden/bag for life thread? Makes me laugh just thinking about it !
The horse burials happened some years before we bought; the first one about 6 years previous, if I remember correctly. The notifications stayed in the bottom of a council employee's paperwork in-tray and were only found after he retired.
The man who came to inspect just chose a nice spring day for it; we're about 22 miles from the council offices. He said he was, " tidying up some loose ends."
Locals tell me there was a loose end with the second horse, as it was large and the pit wasn't quite as deep enough. Apparently, it all went in, bar one leg, which remained pointing skywards, as rigor had long set in.
Grown men almost cry laughing when they describe the problems that leg caused the guy with the digger!0 -
lichfield - so, so pleased you got moved and you're in your new home! And glad your EA is sensible and knows how to deal with the inevitable phone calls. If she passes on any more gems from them, do share.0

No, sorry, I don't know where it is now.

That's the one I was thinking about! I can remember screeching with laughter about it. Happy days x0 -
I've been following and firstly, congrats on finally exchanging! I actually sighed with relief reading it!
Secondly, on moving day I'd be concerned this bully turns up unexpectedly. I don't won't to worry you - lord knows you've had enough of that - but he sounds like a complete nutter, completely unpredictable. And yes from here on in refuse all contact with him, he has no right to be involved. Even if he was paying his daughter's sols fees, that's an agreement between her and him, it doesn't give him rights to the house and you. He can demand whatever he likes, but you owe him absolutely nothing. With that in mind tbh I wouldn't even bother with the £90. And although his demands are a source of amusement, I would be tempted now to ask the estate agent not to contact you again with such updates. It's time to look forward and this man has nothing to do with that.
Good luck!0 -
