Mark, I would never abandon you all without any detailed updates on whatever comes next!! I feel VERY sure Daddy will have a list of complaints within the week. Cleanliness of the house will be top because we're not putting in that much effort right now if I'm honest ;) We've got three cats who are quite stressed by all the boxes so there's every chance of some last minute vomit we might miss. I hope not for her sake, obviously ;)

Must admit I would not have bothered cleaning any house I leave, rather use the time, effort etc on the new one.

I've done it a couple of times as a student - cleaned the old house and bullied housemates into doing their share, then turned up at the new place to find it filthier than the one I just left was after the post exam party :(

I'm just imagining this daughter being told by her father she can't move in until the electrics are checked, and him attempting to get a refund when (not if!) the results aren't to his liking, or at least attempting to get OP to pay for a rewire. He seems to think this is a game...

I guarantee whatever cleaning you do won't be good enough, so don't bother. Concentrate on getting out as early as possible so there is no danger of running into these [add rude words of choice].

IMO thats very unfair on the EA. How do you think they could "move this sale forward" given such a pair of bozos? What exactly do you expect them to do other than explain teh facts and situation which from the OP, they have been doing.

Seems to me they've been earning their money dealing with them but there's a limit to how much you can help stupidity.

And of course they have a sideline in being a "messenger" thats part of the job, relaying information between all parties and chasing.

You're entitled to your opinion, but when things are so tense already HOW does telling the OP this millionaire nonsense constitute helpful or useful or relevant or even informative in terms of moving the sale forward? Things like that wind people up and and could have had the opposite affect, IMO.

    All parties?
I think they should field calls like this, passing on all relevant information regarding the sale to buyer/vendor/solicitors and should be advising the buyer's dad that he is not the vendor and has no business calling to discuss the owner of a property he is not buying!

I guess i'm just old fashioned about that sort of thing:)

She said 'but you do understand your daughter has to complete in order to get the keys Mr W?'

'Yes yes ... But we're not definitely keeping the house at that stage.'

Good luck selling it again then. Hope daughter can find someone to leave the estate agent's fees in an envelope somewhere for her.

Massive congratulations OP, you've been an absolute star throughout this whole debacle.

If brains were dynamite, he wouldn't have enough to ruffle his hair!

I'd be spending the rest of my evening now inserting little fishes into all of the curtain poles and removing my cat's litter tray so that they had no choice but to do their business on the carpets :D
  • Whoop, massive congratulations Lichfield22!!!! 47b20s0.gif
I can imagine you are very relieved it's all gone through - finally.
This has been like a gripping episode of Corrie, it's kept us all on the edge of our seats!

Buyer and her dad sound like a right set of muppets! Deary me, I pity anyone who has any future dealings with them, how on earth they get through life is beyond me.

Hopefully you will be soon settled in your new home and all this headache will be a distant memory.
Kick off those shoes, lie back and crack open the well deserved bottles of wine! confetti.gif

I'm really not sure that's the analogy I'd have chosen, but...

OP forgive me if this is obvious, but should dad be hanging around as you move out, which seems very likely, do not under any circumstances hand the keys to him. i would leave them locked in the house, and daughter retrieves keys from EA. (assuming they have spare). If not. take them to EA.
First he isn't the buyer and second you don't hand over until EA is told completion has happened which it probably won't have by the time you have left the house.
Again, apologies if this is obvious. Good luck tomorrow.
