This guy can't possibly understand anything about buying property in the UK. The whole thing with his involvement sounds dodgy to me. I'd love to know more about them- they're insane! OP, have you googled him? :cool2:

    And .... We've exchanged :D:D

It's been a day of epic proportions ... Daddy has been on the phone to my solicitor in tears ... He just wanted the best for his little girl. Wish I'd been a fly on that wall ... Or maybe a large killer wasp.

The creep made a last ditch attempt to get me to knock £5k off the price :mad: But we have exchanged at the agreed price.

For anyone who still cares about the electrician - clearly now out of the question before tomorrow and my solicitor has just told me that the other side have not actually put the request in writing so legally I don't have to do a thing. However I've always found the moral high ground a good place to be so I'm making an allowance of £90 to the buyer to pay for the electrical test after she moves in and that's my parting shot. Other than the fact that I've just sent the husband to the tip with the curtains I'd intended to leave for her. ;)

Wow.... I"m stunned it happened .... congrats ... and screw the moral high ground, spend your £90 on a really nice meal for you two. You did after all, IIRC, promise the £90 if she exchanged Tuesday. Which she didnt. . So she broke the agreement.

You owe her nothing even morally and I'd deduct it anyway for the damn cheek of trying to get £5k off last minute. What a pair of highly unpleasant chancers.

I hope you spend no more than 3 nanoseconds cleaning up when you move.Forget the moral high ground, people like this wont appreciate that, it will go "woosh" right over their heads.

OMG just read the bit about wanting the keys and not being committed. I take it (hope) you've simply ignored them.

Got to say your EA must really feel they've earned their money. I really hope, fingers crossed, there is no more drama tomorrow. I have a nasty feeling about this ...... has the EA impressed upon them that daughter is on the hook for oodles of money if she doesn't complete?

This thread possibly has to have one of the higher numbers of lurkers in the background, all willing you on every step of the way.
Don't suppose you have time to set up a webcam for their tour of inspection - I could do with a good laugh.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • She said 'but you do understand your daughter has to complete in order to get the keys Mr W?'

'Yes yes ... But we're not definitely keeping the house at that stage.'

Good luck selling it again then. Hope daughter can find someone to leave the estate agent's fees in an envelope somewhere for her.

I wouldnt say he is coming over so much as a bully. More as someone who (genuinely) lacks a few braincells. Phrases coming to mind like "A sandwich short of a picnic".

Hopefully he won't need to have a solicitor point out to him the "facts of life" - ie deposit will be paid by his daughter regardless of whether Completion happened. Not to mention any other attendant aggro up/down the chain:cool:.

If it comes to it - it would probably be as well to have a solicitor make this fact very clear to him and I would imagine even daughters solicitor would be quite happy to do so by now.
  • The EA just called about something else and told me ... You will LOVE this .... That the dad said 'we're very happy to pick up the keys tomorrow but the vendor needs to understand we're not committing to anything until we know the electrics are ok.'

    :rotfl::

    Am dead. This killed me.

De-lurking also! I do not understand how people like him get by day to day. Exchange means they've bought it! I've not bought a house but even I've done enough basic research to know theres no going back.

Well actually it doesn't, it means they've committed to buy it, however they, or better she, could still default on completion and suffer the very expensive consequences. Not that I'm suggesting that will happen.

Another lurker here sending my massive congrats - how you have kept any semblance of sanity through this I don't know - but be sure to turn it into a book one day!

I'm part way through imagining the father as something between Mr Bean and Vinny Jones :rotfl:

As soon as you complete on your new home tomorrow, time to focus on that and start your new family (and family to be) life with a positive focus - and leave the nutty father and daughter to it. I just pity any poor tradesmen who go in to do any work for daughter.:eek:

I almost hope they try it.
  • I'm just picturing what sort of come-uppance Dad might get from his own daughter somewhere along the line. He doesnt seem to have clicked that his behaviour has been both a bit stupid and distinctly chav.

I can just picture daughter saying "Dad - your role is NOT to go in effing/blinding/etc and looking like a right chav. Your role is to literally stand there silently/watchfully/little smile on face/couple of polite comments and looking quietly confident. So how come you messed up and nearly lost me my house? Just darn well do the Quietly Confident and totally polite bit. You can wade in afterwards IF they treat me badly - but otherwise say nowt/do nowt".

He is just so asking for a lecture from his own daughter about his risky behaviour at some point - terminating with a comment about "having turned 18 x years ago now".
