Aaaaand it's started already! Daddy apparently thinks it's 'disgusting' that I plan to pay for the electrical test by way of an allowance (eg money off the buyer's completion statement) and has demanded I leave cash in an envelope.

Anyone got £90 in coppers they'd like to swap for notes?

 Screw that. Ungrateful sod- given that you weren't able to go through with the original electrical agreement as a result of their actions, I'd say the agreement is off. If he's not happy with your goodwill gesture then fine- accept his rejection and don't pay the £90. He's had his chance.

Also refuse to communicate with anyone other than the actual purchaser.

I'd resist the fish ideas though... :p

I've also been lurking..:D So pleased that it's finally signed & sealed...if not quite yet delivered!

The best thing is that you can now get the property you wanted.

Want a bet that there will be a thread started by a disgruntled 'Daddy' about the stresses and strains on his daughter's house purchase... ;)

As everyone else has said, I would be informing "daddy" via my solicitor/EA that from this point on any and all communication will only be accepted from the person who signed for the purchase of the property, and only in relation to the completion of that purchase as agreed

  • I'd rescind the £90 offer given you are not legally bound to pay it. That survey you are paying for will never be carried out.
  • The funny thing is ... The enormity of my last night in my home of 10 years, and the excitement of the new house (our first together where we hope to bring up a family) hasn't sunk in at all thanks to all the stress. They've really managed to mess with my emotions.

My mate works in a bank and is bringing over £89.99 in small change. I'm not joking.

So pleased you managed to exchange, Lichfield22! What a bl00dy kerfuffle, but soon to be a distant memory I hope. Congratulations!

Be careful you don't pay twice for that survey. Just leave the arrangement as it is. That will wind Daddy up enough.

...and only in the form of a solicitor's letter for which they will have to pay :)
  • And the next thing ... He's now phoned the estate agent to say that I'm to hand over the keys to him in person tomorrow, and walk him around the house to explain how everything works. I also need to ring the electrician to find out his availability for next week and have a list of possible times available when he arrives tomorrow.

    Isn't this just ..... Remarkable?!

And where is the buyer in all this?!
