Last minute demand from buyer

  • Congrats OP...

Some people are just clueless or out and out liars..

We recently completed on our house.. We had no upward chain, and the buyer told us they were no chain, as they were keeping their existing house and funding the purchase from land they had inherited / sold.... What should have been a straight forward no chain sale took weeks and weeks and weeks. After 4 weeks, we were told searches were back etc, but our solicitor heard nothing for weeks.. Even after chasing.

It got to the point where we needed to put the deposit down on our off plan new build, and exchange within 28 days - yet their solicitor just ignored ours.. Very frustrating, to the point where we were contemplating on just doing a part ex on the new build. We had no idea if they were getting cold feet, looking elsewhere, didnt have the money, Brexit concerns etc - not good when you want to just pack up..

after 12 weeks of chasing, we got a call on the Wednesday out of the blue saying they wanted to exchange on Friday, as the sale of the land they were selling was due to complete that morning..So after 12 weeks of the unkown, it turns out that the land they had sold, hadnt actually sold until then... but instead of keeping us in the loop, their solicitor just ignored ours !.. Not a patch on your issue, but it just shows how people dont give a stuff..

Good luck with the move !
  • Aaaaand it's started already! Daddy apparently thinks it's 'disgusting' that I plan to pay for the electrical test by way of an allowance (eg money off the buyer's completion statement) and has demanded I leave cash in an envelope.

Anyone got £90 in coppers they'd like to swap for notes?

Well done Lichfield. I've been following this thread and have felt so sorry for you. I also feel sorry for your buyer who has such a control freak for a father. Just say that you will only deal with buyer, with whom you have a contract. Her relationship with her dad is just that, hers not yours

Congratulations, but Sorry daddy wants WHAT? You are being nice offering to still pay for the electrical survey that many of us never have done when buying a house.

Why are the estate agent/solicitors/whoever he's talking to even communicating with daddy? It's not his purchase! I'd tell them not to bother contacting you with any more messages from him as you have no business with him.

lichfield22, you may want to hoard the fish money & blue it elsewhere...

I have a link of MSE suggestions - all hangover remedies are naturally whatever works for you.

Remember it is almost invariably better value by the case?

What others have said. Tell Daddy to do one.

If daughter has signed on the dotted line then this has nothing to do with him now, your contract is with her. All the power is with you now that it's legally binding. You agreed exchange on the basis you paid for the inspection, not how it was paid and not for any repairs that need to be done as a result of it.

Just tell your solicitor/EA or whoever else is involved that you wont' deal with any requested unless they come from the daughter and only her.

What a door knob the Daddy is. Such a shame. Have to say I would still go down the moral high ground and Ok leave £90 in an envelope with the EA along with the keys. Make sure he signs something to say he has it as well.

Personally I would not bother with the fish or prawns. You are a better person that that. Walk away from your old house with fond memories not worried about repercussions. Instead God you should be counting the days until new home day. This is no longer about them and there stupid ideas instead this is you looking forward and planning for you!
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A

    Congratulations Lichfield22.
Like others I've been lurking and reading this thread like a thriller novel.
Hope the completion goes well tomorrow. At least you can sue the H*** out of them if it doesn't.
All the best and hope you will be very happy in your new home :-)
