Labour want to ignore the will of the people...

It is a somewhat eccentric view of what leaving the EU might mean but I suspect the usual vested interests will ensure that leave doesn't mean leave
Au contraire, leaving is leaving and leaving is Brexit. To leave we simply need to not be in the EU. Everything else is an agreement with the EU, not vested interests.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
nobody else seems to want to answer, perhaps you will...
We come up with our plan thanks to ref #2.
The EU say we can't have it.
What do we do then?
I have already said that there is no point voting on a specific deal. What we need is to establish the "type of deal" UK wants. If we voted by a large majority that we wanted a Close relationship with the EU or a Detached relationship, then that would set the tone of negotiations.
Its quite possible that we decide we would like a close relationship with the EU but can only negotiate a simple trade agreementFew people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Yes, yes, we've heard that parroted on here incessantly. In fact I even stated as much myself in this thread, so I really have no idea what insight you think it is providing at this point.
Most people aren't stupid enough that just regurgitating that statement is going to change their opinion on anything so perhaps you should change the record? How persuasive would you find it if people who disagreed with you just kept endlessly saying "The EU is the UK's largest export market" after all?Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. ah so there is no actual defined plan as a result of this ref#2/consultation, just a general idea about some boundaries that we may or may not be able to achieve when it comes to the detail of the negotiation.
Have I understood that correctly?0 -
What happens if the EU reject our plan?
This is my primary issue with Owen Smith's position: It seems utterly unrealistic, because any referendum on the deal would have to be either:
1/ Before Europe had agreed to any specific deal
2/ Too late to realistically do anything after getting the resultHaving a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. Blackwhite bellyfeel double plus good...0 -

Trade negotiations are two way. Not one way. The importance to Germany and France make it imperative that a trade deal is brokered. If people grasped that very basic fact. The debate could move forward. Rather than being stuck in the same groove.
No need to selectively highlight anything either. Sometimes better to let sleeping dogs lie.0
