Hi there again
Well, I emailed Microsoft and told them what I thought of this 'offer' to students. I told them that, as many FE students study CLAIT and ECDL courses - which are based on Microsoft products - they should be ashamed of themselves for forgetting us. I got an email back (within 25 minutes) and was really surprised by the response. So i thought I would share it with you:
Thank you for your email, and apologies for the length of time getting back to you.
The Ultimate Steal is a global campaign being distributed and administered by Digital River International on the behalf of MicrosoftR Corporation.
The offer is aimed at full time students. If you are spending at least half your time doing the academic work required for the course, you are likely to be eligible for the offering. We recommend that you proceed and place an order for this offering, as the order process will assess whether you are eligible, and qualify you accordingly.
If you are at a Further/Higher Education Institution that does not issue such email addresses to its students, you are advised to make an application anyway, and use the appeal process that will be provided when your application is initially rejected. Then you case will be examined in more detail by the team at Digital River.
There are alternatives, may I offer the 2 following
]http://www.microsoft.com/uk/education/buy/pro-default.mspx
Aimed at students and parents, and the following Also provided by Digital River
http://www.studentoptions.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayAboutPage&SiteID=msft&Locale=en_GB
Also aimed at Further/Higher Education students.
I hope this information has answered your query but if you have any more questions please give us a call on 0870 60 10 100. Our lines are open Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm"
It just proves that the little person can take on the likes of Microsoft and get some sort of result
I haven't tried it yet (cashflow problem) but I hope at least one person can avail themselves of this offer because of this supplementary information.0 -
I am studying a 60 point course with the OU. I have an ac.uk email address (in fact I've got two, but one's work!). Do you think I'll qualify for this offer?
Thanks,
Clare0 -
Will this download on a Mac? Got one for the course ... but I know you need a diff version of Office to stick with Apple.£10 a day in November = £593.31 / £3000

I'm pretty sure that Open Office is not compatible with Microsoft Office 2007 yet. However, it is compatible with 2003.0

The offer does not cover Office 2007 for Mac.0

Discussions on the OU forums say that OU students can get this offer as long as they are taking a 60 point course so you are in luck!0 -

Office 2007 has the ability to save documents in PDF format, you have to download something extra from the Microsoft website but it's a free download and linked to from within the Office menus0
