Fingers crossed for you HGW2012 :j

We've only been doing RightMove, we too have rather a wide search area.

We've booked to see three tomorrow, although one is about 30 miles away from the other two, so I'm going to try and swap it for one that's nearer. I've got next week off work so we can do some more viewings.

Just rang up about one that was reduced last week - the vendor apparently can't do any viewings for another 3 weeks! What on earth was the point in reducing if you're not going to let anyone see it?! Not booked an appointment as it seemed rather pointless this far in advance but have made a note to check back when the time comes - although I'm rather hoping we'll have found somewhere by then!

I think it's about time I joined this thread :)

Been looking seriously since May, found 1 property that we loved - it was immaculate and done up to a really high standard. Ticked a lot of our boxes and the only compromise was location (slightly out of the way) but it was the first property in ages we had seen that we both genuinely fell in love with. It was on for £300k, we offered £275k given that 6 weeks earlier another house the next road over with the exact same layout had sold for £245k. Offer rejected and we then said final offer of £285k, whilst speaking to EA she said that the vendors were only looking for full price. Saw on RM today that it has the Sold STC sign on the page, however I'm keeping it in the saved list because I have a feeling whoever bought it will be in for a shock when the valuation comes back.

Second property we really liked was a couple of weeks ago, all boxes ticked and this time the location was a lot better - the only problem was as soon as you opened the back door to the garden, we found out the house backed onto a motorway so all you could hear was cars and traffic :(

Have given up the daily RM monitoring for now as it got too disheartening. Everything that was coming on was at least £30-£50k overpriced and they all needed major refurbishing. I don't mind a do-er upper but at least reflect that in the price! I can't tell you the amount of avocado suites and Artex ceilings I have seen lately, I swear sometimes I feel like I've been in an 80s timewarp viewing some houses :rotfl:

It also doesn't help looking in the South East when I see what my friends up North have bought their houses for. Huge detached houses with lots of space and several toilets and all with driveways. Space is definitely a premium in the South. We also only have 1 day at the weekends to fit in all our viewings so for the past 2 months every Sat has been spent driving 2-3 hours to get to the area we are looking in, and viewing anything from 10+ properties in that 1 day. It's bloody tiring! Looking forward to a lay in tomorrow :)

So having looked at 9 or 10 flats we thought we'd found one that ticked not all, but enough of our boxes as first time buyers in the southwest (so can't be picky!). Saw the place Thursday afternoon, offered full asking price yesterday afternoon over the phone (albeit at 4.30pm), and still have not had a response.
Am I expecting too much to have had a response by end of play today? The vendor had 14 viewings in the last 3 days so I can't conceive that they wouldn't answer the phone if the agent rang!

Joining the house hunt, hoping not for long.

    We had DIP 31/7
    Made a offer 01/08 - rejected
Second offer 02/08 - awaiting response.

If rejected it's back to looking but there is very little in the area we want. Been looking for a year while saving and this is the only property that has floated our boat.

    Quick update

    31/07 DIP
    01/08 Made a offer - rejected
    02/08 Second offer
04/08 Third offer Sealed bids, shockingly still no response even though was told would find out by 8pm that day!
    05/08 Viewing on another house
    05/08 Offer made
    05/08 Offer accepted
    07/08 Solicitors instructed

Same here, still no reply to the offer we made on 4/8 so we are viewing somewhere else today which looks really hopeful and is new to the market.
Am fed up of sellers thinking they can mess buyers around!

    We've been unlucky so far.
Seen 1st house we liked for sale. Called up estate agent for a viewing on the Friday. Only viewing available was the Monday.
They call me back 1 hour later to see they'd received an offer and the seller had accepted.

2nd house we liked I called up to arrange a viewing. Was told 3pm that day. Great! Received a call an hour later to be told the seller has the keys for a couple of days and the EA couldn't get in touch.
(ridiculous situation if a house is for sale surely?)
Called back a number of times the following day. Seller still not available.
Following day I call up again to be told that the seller had accepted an offer. Was annoyed/ disappointed at the same time.

1st house we viewed via Purple bricks. Brilliant company we have found so far.
Put in an offer of £135k (£5k under asking) as it had been up for a while.
Received an email saying it had been rejected. We mulled it over and decided to offer full asking. Went on the laptop to put the bid in and there was another notification to say the seller had accepted £140k from another buyer.
When we had viewed that house a car had rushed out the cul de sac and nearly drove into us head on. My mum and dad were behind me and they said as the car passed us he put his 2 fingers up maybe we lost the house for a reason.

2nd house we viewed. I won't even describe it but it smelled like someone had died it. I can't believe they put it on the market in that state. Nice area but needed a lot more work than the pictures and description said it did online.

We have viewed 2 more properties which we are undecided over.
One of them there is a lot of potential but the living room is small. The living room wall would need knocking through to make it bigger. Every other part of the house we like and we will probably view it again as soon as.

The second is in a really nice area. The sellers want more than what it is worth though for some reason. Needs work doing and a similar house sold for £12k less a few months back.
It has also been on the market for 5 months too!

We are in no rush to buy but it would be nice to get our own place and start settling down.

Good luck all, feels so difficult finding somewhere that ticks all the boxes!

Juniordoc sorry you've not heard back. I'm afraid we may have done something similar with our buyers - we had so many viewings and by the second day already had a couple of offers so we decided to leave it on the market for a full week to see what happened. I suspect our potential buyers may have been as frustrated as you :o but we did ask the estate agent to keep them all informed of our plans at least. We weren't in a rush so it made no sense for us to just accept the first offer when we had so many viewings booked.

Glad I'm selling rather than buying round here though!

We have found somewhere! :j :j First offer rejected, second accepted and I've sent all our ID docs and mortgage in principle letter so hopefully it'll come off the market this morning.

Feel relieved, excited - but also feel like I can't get too excited as there are still so many things that could go wrong at this stage and i've not done this before :rotfl: :rotfl:

I guess this is where it starts getting expensive too...

Not sure how many houses we've viewed to find this one - well over 20. Takes time but hopefully it'll be worth it for all of us in the end!
  • Glad you have found somewhere, Cheery! Hope it all works out for you :)

The closer it gets to us moving out of our flat the more down I'm getting about house hunting :( Feel like every day is spent refreshing RightMove in the hope something comes up for us! I'm also getting annoyed spending hours on the phone trying to cancel things as we're moving in with family temporarily so not as simple as changing address!

Yay, our chain is formed at last!

Six of us. Let the fun and games commence! Never had a chain anywhere near that long (will be my 8th move) - not exactly thrilled at the prospect, but hey ho, these things are sent to try us...

    Good luck all x
