Does anyone want to join me waiting to find a house to buy?

That is quite a saga PositiveMentalAttitude, and not over yet. I'm glad I'm not the only one dithering, and I know what you mean about houses you are not sure about suddenly seeming perfect when you see the 'sold' tag appear on them. I pulled out of one purchase, then changed my mind a couple of days later, but which time it was sold. I've had a survey on another house which found a couple of issues and am now dithering about whether to go ahead. Buying a house is definitely one of the most stressful things in life :-(0

It certainly is stressful - impossible to tick all the boxes.
Good luck!
Looking to buy in the same area. Have you noticed the number of vacant houses coming on? - presumably because of the new s24 tax rules making BTL unprofitable.. Anyway, point is, empty houses in winter are a pain for any seller. With so many on the market at the moment it's going to make the next 3-4 months very interesting indeed!!!0 -

I'm hoping there might be something in the Autumn budget to help 1st time buyers, another stamp duty holiday would be pretty perfect for us right now!
More announcements on help to buy today so we'll see!0 -

I'd love to see the same but let's face it when they are throwing money at HTB there's not going to be much left in the kitty for anything else (I.e. anything that doesn't benefit housebuilding firms)

First looked in 2015 but finances didn’t work out. That’s all sorted now, so back to viewing.
Prices seem to have increased in the two years though. £180k is the new £160k in Manchester it seems. And there are much fewer available.
Never mind though, I thought I’d never be in this position at one point!0 -
And it was going so well!
Went to an open house on Saturday and it was great. Wife was working so we went round in the evening just so she could see from the outside (it's an empty property) and the vendor was actually in. So she very kindly showed us around and we both love it and intended to put in an offer on Monday morning.
It's a big purchase though and as it's sunny today we went back with the toddler and had a walk around the area. I nipped into the back garden as it's empty to check it out on a sunny day and the bloody neighbour and his wife marched across, accused me of being a burglar and threatened to phone the police. I calmly explained but the silly twits weren't having it and escorted me off the street.
Fair enough you want to look out for your neighbour's house, but once you've established what's going on, don't fall out with your potential future neighbour on day 1.
So I suppose we now know the neighbours are complete d****, but it's back to house hunting for us.
I'm going to pop a note through the door thanking the nice vendor for showing us around unannounced but informing here we will not be making an offer because of her aggressive and rude neighbours.0 -

Sorry but I would have reacted like the neighbour - just because its empty doesn't mean you can wander into the garden as you like! Our next door is rented out and while it was between renters the owner asked us to keep an eye on it, if I'd seen someone in the garden I would have questioned them and if they said they were just having a look then I wouldn't have just said 'OK then' and left them there. It's a bit odd to think it's OK to trespass just because the property is empty so I can understand why he didn't trust your explanation.0 -
Sorry, I disagree. I’m potentially spending thousands and thousands of pounds here and not having a quick nosey around the back through politeness, or fear of ‘trespass’ is daft. I wasn’t putting up a tent. If I saw someone in next door’s garden (incidentally the lady who lives next door died earlier in the year and the daughter asked me to keep an eye on the place) I’d ask “can I help you?” and then probably have a chat about what a nice area it is to buy in.
But then again some people have a fit if someone turns around in their drive or put up ‘no parking in front of my house’ signs.0
