Does anyone want to join me waiting to find a house to buy?

We are kind of humour hunting right now. One eye on what's about whilst still renting. Waiting to see something which fits our criteria come on the market.
It's so disheartening to read of those on other threads talking about how expensive their 90k or £150 properties are when the minimum we are likely to be able to get a 3 bed house near here with some form of parking is £260k and that's the minimum. So much for help to buy isa which is no longer worth the account it's being saved In!
One will come up eventually that we can both afford and fall in love with. ☺0 -
* house not humour. Grr for autocorrect*0

Sorry, I disagree. I’m potentially spending thousands and thousands of pounds here and not having a quick nosey around the back through politeness, or fear of ‘trespass’ is daft. I wasn’t putting up a tent. If I saw someone in next door’s garden (incidentally the lady who lives next door died earlier in the year and the daughter asked me to keep an eye on the place) I’d ask “can I help you?” and then probably have a chat about what a nice area it is to buy in.
But then again some people have a fit if someone turns around in their drive or put up ‘no parking in front of my house’ signs.
Just because you're potentially spending thousands it doesn't give you the right to enter private grounds without consent. If you want to enter a garden to view it then it should be done as part of a formal viewing and not on a whim when you feel like it just because you might buy it.
If that poster had just been looking at the garden without being in it and the neighbours had kicked off then I could understand the frustration. But to be actively trespassing on private grounds and then expecting the neighbours to be ok with that entitled explanation....seriously??? I think the neighbours were bang on with their response.
I'm horrified that some people think this is acceptable behaviour. :huh:Homeowner:j0 -
You are entitled to check it out, at a time agreed with the property owner and the E.A and with one of them present unless they agree otherwise. Just because you're potentially thinking about putting an offer in on a house doesn't give you the right to show up and poke around as you please. You wouldn't do it in an occupied house so why would you think it's OK in an empty one?0

Anyone still looking?? I’m losing the will and there’s been nothing of interest to us in weeks now.0

I have been looking for 10 weeks and am becoming obsessive, looking at RM first thing every day and driving through my chosen area. I am picky about location and only want to move to a small area < 2 miles away. Rural but with a shop, bus and hall and neighbours. I tried looking further afield but am too scared to make a complete jump into the unknown, I need the comfort blanket of my known area
I am ready to jump, prepared to pay cash before I sell my own home. I am hoping I will stay in focus, this will be my last and forever home, so I have to get it right. I haven`t viewed any properties yet because I don`t intend being a time waster. RM makes it so easy, the map, floorplan, location0 -
Similar to us then. We sold our property 11 weeks ago now and have been living with parents since
I’m also quite picky on area but finding nothing coming up is a constant downer.
I keep toying with the idea of leafletting but feel that I wouldn’t take it seriously if I was selling my house, also, how do you end up not targetting houses that are not actually in your budget.0 -
I'm not expecting anything good to come up until January now, that tends to be when things pick up again. Although saying that there have been some nice properties that have come up this week in my desired area and some that have been reduced within my price range. But none that I like enough to try and free up time in my busy schedule to go for a viewing, that's the downside I suppose to buying in an area you don't live. Bring on January!Homeowner:j0

I potentially saw a very suitable new house, on paper only, then did some internet digging. Very expensive houses in that lovely area and many for sale. Small villages in a beautiful area of the country, now blighted due to rat runs by lorries. It is a no no and alarm bells rang so, sigh, I go back to waiting but this time with an atlas next to me0

OMG, I can't believe I got this far, placing my first ever offer on a property! It's a tiny flat, in a "up and coming" aka, not super nice, part of town...but it's a step up from renting and with a bit of upgrading I can see it becoming "mine".
I'm just slightly worried cause I made an offer a bit (cough, 10%) less than the asking price...but it needs some work to it, it's tiny, has been out for quite a while, and the market in the area has been flooded with former BTL properties, bringing down the prices
Is it normal that I feel like i should call the EA every second minute to check if he's heard back from the vendor? :think:GC £~~/3000
