Why are you even tempted by the TK job? 🤔

Yaay for producing democratically upstanding citizens 😊
I always vote as it neutralises Mr KK’s vote! 😉

Good question.  Apart from the fact they will pay me in money, and they would have me back like a shot ..... I think it is because, come September, I will have DS3 in college and DS4 starting his GCSEs, so my youngest will be 15 by the end of the year, and I do not have to be  at home for them.
DH is loving his home office - he is in there now, and he was only physically in his work office once last week, although he was in other cities twice and plenty of online meetings.  It is tempting him to work from home more, unless it is his contracted  teaching/student allocated hours.    Apart from that, if he is not walking the 10 minutes  each way to work each day, he is not popping Panad0l like smarties.  The knee is not good, there is nothing they can do that will fix it, they have offered steroid injections, but that is only temporary relief, and they really don't recommend a knee replacement until it is the absolute last resort. So he is just in pain and unable to walk more than about 3km a day or he is in agony.  3km is not a long way. There is no 'shall we go for a walk?' there is no 'shall we go to X and  wander around?'  and being in pain is exhausting for him. He can't drive for more than 2 hours either, or he can't walk the next day.
I think it is time for me to get a more permanent job, as I am really worried that DS1 and DS2 think that as I am at home, not at work,  they can be at home doing nothing and it is normal.  I worry I am setting a bad example for them.
I want to be able to afford to take my family on holiday.  Even self catering abroad that is around £3k for 6 people.  That is more than I have earned in  22 out of the last  24 years.  I do not want to be taking money from savings for holidays, I want it to be from what I have earned - otherwise it seems a step backwards - is that normal? I want to sort the house out asap, just in case DH gets a job elsewhere.  Bathrooms and kitchens take the big money, and I just feel like I am not pulling my weight - although over the last two years I have paid off the mortgage, and got the roof replaced, and carpeted and decorated the house, and paid for a loft extension, so realistically I know I am, but it does not feel like it.
One year of full time regular work would  pay to  fix all three bathrooms, and give me enough to permanently sort the  more structural issues with the kitchen.   For some bizarre reason I do not  want to take money from DH because he will then stress about his savings.  I am all about saving DH from money worries.  It would also mean it would be easier to sell the house fast if he gets a job elsewhere.   Which might be on the cards.  He is now applying for jobs and fellowships as they come up.  He has lost his fear.

Ummm …. From what I remember of your time at TKM you absolutely hated it and by the time you left, it was starting to affect your mental health? Might be worth rereading your posts from the time?
As far as I can see you have been well regarded by every employer you have worked for whilst I have been aware of you.
Perhaps look at an alternative retail option or even something that uses your significant skill set more effectively - joining an event planning company would seem like an obvious fit for you for example.
I guess I’m saying that I think you’re right, for all the reasons you’ve listed, and some others, it would be a good thing for you to get a job. Just perhaps be a bit more bold about what job to go for … 😊

Just my h’appeth 😉 I wish you luck with whatever you decide to go for.

The only advantage I can see about working for TK is the freedom it could allow you to do all the house stuff you need to.  Presumably it would also up your pension as there is no point in DH paying 40% on his pension if you aren't even up to paying 30%, if you see what I mean.  Along the lines of not having all your eggs in one basket.

Thanks,  I know I would hate it, I really hate the idea of going back, but I keep bumping into the management whenever I am in town, and they ask me when I am coming back!    They don't seem to understand it was an experiment.
It tends to be around this time of year, when everyone and his dog seem so much more organised than me, and is jetting off all over the place - mostly because they are retired, or have no kids, or are in debt and don't care, that my guilt gland starts overproducing.  I fall for the advertising of happy families in sunny locations with a pool.
I also have a fear that at this upcoming event there is not going to be any management around the place.  There are 3 overlapping events booked in over 10 days, in 3 separate locations, staff is going to be spread thin.  There are no managers at our event when the event actually starts.
All of this I can hopefully find out about on Tuesday. I am just stressing because I had to remind DH that I am leaving him for a week, next Sunday, and he looked shocked and confused.  He operates on a different level.

Sounds like the event company is short of management and you should suggest to them that they resolve that by giving you a management role :)
