In other news....

I have 2 builders, 1 apprentice, and 2 velux windows - of which I should get at least £50 cashback on each window. Nice to have, or £100 cashback if they are not the painted effect.  It will be a nice surprise what I get.

I got Step-Gran's NS&1 savings paid in to my account this morning.  All 18p of it. It has been there for  nearly 40 years. That is a pants interest rate! Now where shall I spend it? Next week I could buy 2kg white potatoes from 18th December in Alidee for 15p!  Cant afford the carrots though - they are 19p

So I might have windows again by the end of the day, although with no roof tiles on the back, the world will still be a strange hue of tarpaulin blue until they put them back on...........

Does your builder have a penalty clause for running over? 

I don't even have a contract!  I know, I know, but they are recommended by the architect, and they are a legit firm, and (to them) it is a small 6 week job.

I rarely have contracts - I think most of the trades I used wouldn't know where to start with one - so I'm not in a position to talk. But you seem so much more organised than me!

Well one builder and apprentice have disappeared, and another builder has arrived, so I am back to 2 builders.   I now have 2 velux attached to the house, smaller than imagined, but will still let in loads of very important light, and some tiles are back on the roof,  I have asked these builders some questions, and got clarification on a couple of issues (will not need a lintel when I remove the chimney breast in the bathroom on the middle floor as it is no longer load bearing, etc etc).   Yesterday I stripped all the remaining wallpaper in the bathroom and separate loo, in prep for the mythical plasterer to do the ceilings.

While waiting for them to do their buildery-thing, I am tied to the house - mostly answering the door to postmen and delivery drivers for DH -   I have baked a Christmas cake (2 hours), and Nigella's gingerbread cake x2 (1hour), and the house smells fab. Not quite at the fa-la-la-la-la stage yet, but inching a little closer toward it.

Really impressed the living room is getting to 19.5 degrees at night with the new boiler, it is the first time the living room has ever been at  even a slightly comfortable temperature since we have been here, it has always been a case of cold hands and feet and under a throw on the sofa with a hot water bottle.   It has made me more determined to get the floor insulated and watch the heating bills go down this winter.  Last month's energy bills came to £259 leaving me with £500 credit.

These ones are 20 cm shorter than the previous ones, because of the new flat roof at the back and some guff about possible future heavy snow weight overload words words words words🤔 There is still loads of light as it is south facing. We will get used to them. 
DS4  came home from school, had a tantrum, hates his new window, hates me, hates the cake, hates all the food in the house, hate hate hate hate hate! Why was I not born a penguin 🐧🐧😭 😭😭🐧🐧🐧😭🐧 It's not fair! 
 I guess the countdown to the end of term is on ( one week, half a day, thanks for asking 👍).  
It all started because I didn't drive him to school because it wasn't raining and it wasn't cold.  Nearly 14 yr  old boys do not make a lot of sense.
