Looks great -velux windows make such a difference. Is the new room part of the old eaves? or is it an extension over something eg a garage roof??
How can you hate a window?! I suppose if its barred and you locked in ...DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

The new room is the old pitched loftspace above the bathroom, which is above the kitchen (standard Victorian L shaped terrace) so I measured it and realised I could get the right head height, just, if I flat roofed it. It does not go above the height of the old roofline, so I could do it under permitted development - no planning permission needed. Luckily, the wall in the loft spaces between us and the house next door had been built up with breeze blocks previously - probably fire regs for the landlord certification. Worked in my favour anyway.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Well today has been a strange day. I woke up utterly calm. This is a rare occurrence. I am calm in a crisis, or when blood is spurting, or in the midst of danger, and none of those things were happening this morning.DH did not even get out of bed until 10am, I made lunch, and was about to go out when he asked me to remove a couple of nuts on the washing machine, because the touch-plate was having a meltdown. No idea why, it was fine Thursday morning the last time I used it, but whether the workmen dropped boiling water from their kettle on it. or leant on it, or whatever, it was scrolling through the cycles and beeping all over the place by Thursday night, so I turned it off, and when I turned it on this morning, I did the laundry, and then it had another episode, so we took it apart, had a look ,made sure everything was propely seated, put it back together again, turned it on, it worked fine, went to put it back together again, when DH electrocuted himself - we had forgotten to unplug it again - and he decided it needed a spot of superglue, and stuck his hand inside it to press on the inside of the plate - ZAPP!! good old fuse board did what it was supposed to, and DH said a couple of very bad words, very loudly, now he has a sore finger. I made him a cup of tea. It was the least I could do!Now have a properly working washer and dryer due to DH and his magic ability to tinker, but did not get much else done today. He scared the life out of me.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Totally user error. We know better than to stick our hands on electrical components. Just forgot to turn it off again. Grr. It did make DS3 and DS4 confess to both having given themselves a shock sticking their fingers into lamps. Flippin' idiots.

Got confirmation of job dates in January, will be £500 - £600 in the kitty.Car insurance is looking at about £260 for me next year. Including legals, personal accident, breakdown, and courtesy car - nearly £100 more than last year, but still, not enormous in the whole scale of things.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
