Oh my goodness that’s scary, glad ProfFH is ok MrCM has a history of electrocuting himself as teenagers whilst tinkering too. Hope you all have a great Sunday CM2

Wow that is scary, glad he is okI get it now re the extra room - how exciting - especially as I guess you have been planning it for years. Lucky you didn’t need planning permissionIs there a fixed purpose for your new room ?DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Not been planning it for years! Had the idea in January, the architect came in February.DS1 will be moving out of the tiny box room, which will become (hopefully) DH's study/craft room (freeing up the rear living room to be a social space again, not an office), when DS1 gets a job and moves on/out, one of the others will get the new room, and their room will become a guest room.I have been looking at the figures again, and I have just enough in the kitty to pay everyone before Christmas, should the build be finished by then. They have until Friday. I just submitted my cashback claim for the velux. It is either £100 or £200. Either way it is a nice little bonus.I have got my dehumidifier out in readiness for plaster drying (ever the optimist!), waylaid some of my nicer bricks to be reused later in filling in a few spalled bricks under the front bay window. Earmarked one of the water tanks to be recycled into a deep planter in the front or back yard (future plans!) checked up on my honeysuckle plant that will be planted in a container once the scaffold is down in the back yard - the builders have covered some of my plants, like the lavender bushes with their rubbish pile. I know there is limited places for them to put their tat, but really, I can't even get into the store cupboard at the back of the house. The passionflower is doing so well up against that long, nicely painted, white wall - south facing, I nabbed the honeysuckle late summer from Aldeee for that purpose, then I thought, hang on a minute, what about a flippin' grape vine?? Vine leaves, and grapes, what an idea!!!So that is one of the 5 things on my Christmas list - the others are a hardbacked page a day Jan-Dec diary, an Emma Bridgewater family planner (**psh- giggle**) wall calendar - they are beautiful and have 6 fat columns, so work well for us, the 4th Richard Osman book, and tea-lights/candles. Simple pleasures. I don't fancy chocolates, or biscuits, I have had one box of gingerbread biscuits, and one packet of spekuloos, and I am over it already. So not like me! I would have been buying a box and a packet a week last year, but nope, finally I seem to be accepting this dieting lark.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Oh dear. Dr F-H finished work on Friday, and has booked all this week off as holiday. He has done 2 day of builders, and is heartily sick of the whole process and started to whine about the noise, and not being able to concentrate to read, and them leaving the doors open. Welcome to my world, kitten! In reality, the plasterers will finish today, the windows should go in today, and then it can bake until after C-mas, and he can read to his heart's content. After that is one radiator going on the wall, window sills and a door and we should be done.My car is in the garage having its service and MOT this morning.Last night I paid £540 to Building Control (bloke turned up, spent 15 minutes chatting, bugg3red off again - it is a flippin' SCAM!! - they all know each other by name - oh is is Mr Builder PLC? Is it Daz, Gaz, Baz or Chaz? Nah, they know what they are doing, see ya .... Kerching! ) It will, however, cover me when we come to sell. All documentation in order.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

£160 poorer, but hey, my car is safe and MOT'd for another year.In other hilarious news, the builders measured one window wrong, so there is half a wall the plasterers cannot plaster, until the window appears in the right size....which will be after Christmas...the plasterers will have to return - like Batman. When they do, there should already be a window, a door and skirting boards. Decorating in that room has therefore been shunted back a week. Which means I can move on with the plan of attack on the other bedrooms first, and the loft boarding experiment!!Oh my God I saw the most enormous rat down at the very bottom of my street yesterday, honestly I thought it was a ferret, it was running toward me along the pavement when I was waiting to turn left onto a main road. It was 8 feet long (well, almost), okay, it was the length of a domestic cat, and it had intent in its clever little eyes. I did wonder if it had recognised me (Dave?? is that you? My god you have grown down at your riverside home, you must be thriving!) and knew I had killed his ratty little mate - you can't say I did not try my absolute hardest to catch him/her humanely, and there was no poison involved. No excuse I know, I killed it. It was me what done it.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

In other, other news I have booked the TV aerial man to come and nail the aerial back on to the top of the house at 9am tomorrow. We have lived with just a working TV in the living room for long enough. I need digital radio in my bedroom, and I need TV in the kitchen, because cooking and cleaning and folding laundry is far too boring without it, so I am doing it too quickly and a rubbish job of it as well. There are too many solid walls between the magic box and the kitchen for wifi to work to bodge even iplayer. Even DS3 has asked when the kitchen tv is going to be working again, so I have fixed that to be sorted tomorrow, because I am worth it.....possibly not though, because it is going to be around £80. Danger money for heights, obviously...... I will be lucky if he is here 15 minutes ... Sharks! Sharks!

If Benny Hill did TV aerials, then his son came round today. Spent 3 hours (!!) not doing his job properly ( attach that there aerial to that there wall) and I have 2 working tvs now, instead of the 3 I had before. He was a total tool. Told me I could not have what I wanted, then tried what he wanted, it did not work, then he faffed about and messed around, and finally (after I had abandoned poor DH and gone off to work) he did a bodge job with a new aerial. £120 later. What a total muppet! Self....Employed......For.....A.... Reason......

Oh dear. Do you have a working TV in the kitchen?
NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!2 -
Yes, in the kitchen and my bedroom ,I have TV!! Let the Christmas commence. Not making DS3 &4 go in tomorrow. It is an extended form time, a prize giving assembly, an early lunch and out the door at 12.00 ( they will all be out by 11.30).
They don't want to go, so they are not going.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
