Urgh, they just cancelled the train tomorrow to the Christmas markets in Manchester. Tickets valid on the next train by same carrier. Next train cancelled, and the one after that. So I requested a refund of my £101 and DH is going to drive us instead. You know, I plan, I research, I find bargains, I arrange to meet people, then they announce 8 days of strikes, and I am utterly relieved to know they finish the day before I had planned to go, then they cancel 4 trains in a row from Sheffield to Manchester anyway.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

You never know Step gran might have had loads of PB's!DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Weather warnings for rain and strong winds. The friends we were meeting have cancelled on us this morning. Plans shelved, will try another day. Going to clean the house instead. Might make a gingerbread and a Christmas cake.Yesterday I was tied to the house again, because one of the builders was due to come ............. (tumbleweed rolls across the prairie ) ................ so I got out the ladder and hung the star lights in the window, put up the tree, lit the tree, baubled the tree, still no builder, moved the furniture, found the stockings, hoovered up all the bits that fell off the the tree (it is plastic and over 10 years old. It is going a little bald) still no builder, tested all the lights, tried to make some work with assorted spare bulbs, nope, Oh well, they are very old and have served me well.Step-Gran's sister in Canada rang last night, spoke to her for nearly an hour - she is 80 and her partner is 93, I last heard from her in Easter, so it seems I am a twice yearly remembrance, probably when she thinks of her sister.Went to bed - still no builder.Right, on with the day, now the plans are out the window. The house will look better at the end of today than it has done in quite a while. Plus the endless, dreaded laundry.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Top two floors cleared and cleaned, DH wrapped some presents, I assisted when he started swearing at the sellotape. So good at so many things, utterly useless when it comes to sticky tape. Darwin.I have one load of laundry left to wash, I am spinning my loads at 1400 after a cycle and then they take much less time in the dryer.Yeast has been put on to do its thing - I am making pizza for supper. I have all the stuff in, so why not? Plenty of leftover salad and olives and coleslaw from the hummus and wrap meal for lunch. It does not have to be gourmet everyday.Had a good tidy up in the pantry - discovered somebody has been at my nut supply and also the golden syrup has disappeared. Will need to go shopping before I make my Christmas cake and gingerbread now, but could not be bothered, so it will have to be another day. Will soak my fruit in brandy tonight so I will be forced to do it soon.It is coming up to DS4s birthday, he will be 14 on Christmas Eve Eve, so have been coming up with ideas of what he might like, he is hopeless, he thinks of one big thing, then has no clue as to anything else, but I have been keeping a list of things he has said he wants for the last 4 months. he has probably forgotten he wanted them, it freaks them out when I do that. They think I can read their minds. Anyway he does not know he wants 2 Premium Bonds, but he does. so there.DS2 ventured from his room today, up the stairs, toward the lairs of his brothers, it is not a route he often takes, and was very freaked out to find a new doorway and a room that had not been there before. He really should pay more attention. There is a leak coming in through the roof to the middle floor, I have put a bucket under it, messaged the builder, but have heard nothing back.... annoying.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
