Why would you get it wrong.  And even if you do it is your money to get it wrong with.  You have been in charge for years what is changing now.  You are still in charge.  Your DH wants you to be in charge as he has other things to deal with.  Just carry on as you have been doing.  Just more of the same old same.

Oh my goodness you could not make it up!!  In the continuing saga of the step-gran.......

 I now have two cheques, totalling £700 made out to s/g, BUT her bank accounts have been closed by the solicitor and cannot have anything paid in to them, and they were also posted out to her address - that I had sold - good job they were in her name, not mine or they would not have been redirected to my house by the PO. So spent a happy hour on the phone to The Bank - nothing can be done, get them to reissue, said The Bank.  Then on to the health insurer, who claimed no knowledge of being sent my details, but admitted to having the will, and so knowing she was dead, and then after 5 minutes of 'yes I did send you X - on this date / no you didn't- we don't have a copy of the will/your id/ David Essex's first album' they found them, admitted defeat, and will reissue said cheques to 'the representative of s/g' instead of just sending it in my name.  But at least I know if I rock up to the bank, they will cash them. Again, not to be sniffed at. Glad I did the Power of Attorney before she died, it will make everything easier.  

Also cleaned the top two floors (teen bedrooms a total tip again) clothing and cups and glasses stolen back,  thoroughly scrubbed the bathrooms and loos and the downstairs bathroom sink (DH uses it for cleaning his art supplies).  I do not go in there often, and it was covered in printers' ink and clothes dye and all  sorts  - disgusting!!- felt like a total slu-t when I saw the state it was in. Shiny clean and white again now though.  Laundry on the line and in the machine,  All that can be recycled is sorted and in the right bags.  All in all a productive morning.  DH is online gaming with friends tonight, so I can clean the hall and living room while he is doing that, and start listing things for sale.  The kitchen will be done  in part while I am cooking supper, because now the kitchen is full of mugs and glasses and plates removed from teenagers' bedrooms.  Not to mention the massive pile of laundry to be done. Grrrr!  I was only away for TWO DAYS!!

Still no cheque from the solicitors....  gosh how bad can second class post be? we ask ourselves before admitting we did not believe they had ever sent the flippin' thing in the first place.  But  at least now I have two small jobs booked in this year for work, which should give me an extra couple of hundred quid to spoil DH, who has just bought himself a new eye-pad and wireless keyboard and is feeling guilty about it - he needed it for work, he could afford it, I do not understand why he is feeling like he has done something wrong, it is what we save for -  so that we can buy the thing to replace the thing that is no longer working properly.  He can't write his books if he is spending all his time stabbing at the screen with his finger because his keyboard won't work.  1diot man.

Not this bad, especially as the brother has received his. Do please launch at them for an explanation.
I am again admiring your tenacity and staying power in the repetitive arguments, I guess DS1-4 has given you good practise. You'd think these companies are run by and employ toddlers their inability to follow the line of communication all on record, actually that's probably offending toddlers.

Isn't it a shame that those of us who live in the real world cannot always blame - the post, the trains, the .................  I'm sure I have said before that I wouldn't trust a solicitor as far as I could throw them, which is not far as most of them are twice my weight.  The longer the money remains in their accounts the more for them.  So figure it out.  Old people take a couple of days to get it to the bank.  You make sure it goes in the bank the day you get it.  Not exactly rocket science.

The cheque arrived this morning, I threw myself out the door and put it straight in the bank less than half an hour after it arrived.  

Still have to deal with the solicitors as neither The Brother or The Sister's deeds of variation forms have been returned (so they say) - but at least it has been paid for, so no more costs to them, just one last bureaucratic piece of nonsense to get through..... while I was at the bank I made sure any cheques made payable to The Representative Of Step-Gran F0xh0les could be paid to my account as we are still linked due to the P.O.A I took out.

It won't be real until it clears and funds are available, the solicitors might go bust, someone might contest the will, London Bridge might fall down.  Then I have to open another account with a different bank as it is over the limit for the guarantee if the bank goes bust.  So much to do!!

Just made a butternut squash and (not)chicken curry, a tomato and red pepper soup, a carrot and red lentil soup, and a tear and share seeded bread roll thing that is currently baking in the oven and  I have no idea how long it is going to take to cook.  I am not confident in my bread, but it always turns out well.  Yeast Anxiety Disorder, I expect.

Anyway. got out early and took DH + 2 kids for a walk to the shop, and back. They all got their vit. D hit and a little bit of exercise - 2 miles is more than DH has done in a while, so breaking him in slowly. He needs to be around falling leaves while the weather is good.
