and the absolute most surprising of all  -we did not even have a number allocated for this one - how do you take a LFT - they have NEVER had one. Including having flown to the Land of Cuckoo clocks last month without one.  !!!!!!.

Is the positive LFT too late to stop the in laws coming then?

No, they arrived on Friday afternoon. I had the kids testing daily in the hope that might stop the visit.  We all tested negative M,T,W,T, and Friday morning.    There was lots of hugging, and a big  long family meal Friday night while they told us how careful they have been.......  Saturday afternoon DS4 tests positive twice.  PCR test being delivered today.

MiL is sulking in the kitchen and drying up 5 cups as slowly as humanly possible as DH asked her to take a test this morning.  They have not been taking tests, they announced, as the Irish Government is not asking anyone to.  There is no  personal responsibility taking place. I know full well she does not want to take a test in case she finds out she is positive, because she has plans to meet up with people in London next weekend.   I just cannot believe someone would go and visit people without taking a flippin' test, or have not taken a test at any point in the last 18 months.   Madness. 

Poor DS4 is confined to his room, coughing and spluttering.   I have just posted a hot chocolate and an iced doughnut under his door (metaphorically - it was on a tray and I knocked and ran)  he is loving room service, but I think he is going to get bored of ths quite quickly.

I am not sure I can cope with 14 days isolation with in-laws - DH is so angry he can hardly speak - I did have to laugh when he just looked at me and said 'I am not sure these tablets are going to be any help' 

Am I just blessed with oblivious inlaws?  How can anyone have got away with never having taken a test in the last 18 months??? Even the space station dudes take tests!!

I had to produce a Negative result before accessing a Dublin public sector client site.

I could not help myself, I looked straight at her and said 'How can you never have taken a test? It has been 18 months' she said but the government were not encouraging people to take tests.  Total cop out.  To be fair we had our suspicions they were not taking this seriously, but honestly! Hopefully it is just coincidence DS4 is positive  while they are here.  Otherwise I am stuck with the funsters for the next fortnight.

I have to admit I've only taken the tests that the Zoe Covid study ask me to, but they I've had Covid, have long covid, and don't actually go anywhere or do anything as a result! How come they didn't have to take tests to come over?

Work have a testing facility on site so I go there when I need one. Having them done keeps bringing back a lot of unpleasant memories of my A&E visits (which necessitated testing before sending me to a ward) so doing them myself has proved to be much harder.

Eluding them completely is just not right, especially when you know you'll be going through a range of transport hubs before staying with and seeing lots of other people indoors.

My MIL is currently avoiding getting the 2nd jab, let alone the booster. She insists she had Covid the December before it arrived here (even though if she had had it, it probably would have killed her) and had the first jab, which then made her terribly ill. Her knees "still haven't fully recovered from it" so until they feel better she won't get the second jab (she is militant about mask wearing and hand washing and she and FIL are only going to places that are outdoors). However, she's also terribly worried about Mr VH's daily commute and how much it puts him at risk, even though he's double jabbed, keeps his mask on etc. Mr VH has commented on the cognitive dissonance going on there but she won't hear it.

@VintageHistorian - can you point MIL at the research that shows that you need both jabs even if you've had Covid (and that the combination will mean that if she has had covid it'll make the jabs work better). My mum said the first one amplified every ache and pain, but the second one wasn't so bad. Of course, chances are that your MIL's knees are worse because of a. getting older and b. reduced activity due to lockdown, but I don't expect she'll believe you
