Have a lovely time. Hope you see your Puffins. Robin Hoods Bay is good for Rock pools, the chippy on the right just before you get on the beach is great and the Ice cream van drives onto the beach. XMFW - 01.10.21 £63761 01.10.22 £50962 01.10.23 £39979 01.10.24 £27815. 01.01.25. £17538

We stayed in the YHA which is right at the top of the 199 steps, behind the gladiator statue. It was a fabulous space.I had the most excellent amazing time, we saw puffins on the first day - instead of going to the RSP Bird at Bempton Cliffs and paying ££ for entry, we went to the public car park at Flamborough Head by the lighthouse, paid £1.40 for 2 hours, and saw the funny little orange legged freaks landing on the cliffs and feeding their babies - they land on the cliff in exactly the same leg position as cats go into when you try and put them in a cat carrier (X) so funny - and I bought a pair of binoculars in a c/s last year for £12 and they made everything marvellous. We went back another day, and parked at the other side, where there are cliffs, and a smugglers cave and a good few other caves. We saw seals too and guillemots and walked for miles. There is a lovely book and coffee shop called The Little Fox next to the green chip shop on the 199 steps side of the bridge - the books in there are so pretty. The coffee is decent too - the C0stas were takeaway only as I think their staff got pinged on Football Night. We played in the sea every day except one - DS3 got sunburnt feet and had to stay in the room on the Thursday, but we all still had an amazing time, it was properly good family time. The hostel did not have enough staff, the self catering bits were closed - which we knew about, but they were also unable to do breakfasts or anything more than a coffee really in their restaurant - and one day they could not even do that!! Two days they had run out of soya milk. The staff were stressed, and on occasion were just downright rude. And that was when the place was practically empty ! They open fully on Monday, and they were still advertising for staff and said they were not getting any applicants. There were lots of 'help wanted' and 'staff needed' signs all over the place in town at a lot of shops and food outlets. We will be going back, no doubt about it.However, there were maybe 10 people on the beach the first 3 or 4 days we went down to play, but on about Wednesday lunchtime, suddenly the crowds appeared, and it got quite busy, which we did not like at all, so were not upset that we did not go back due to 'the feet issue' - he was in a wetsuit, so now has rather a fetching tan on his hands and feet and neck - the rest of him is still blindingly white. So we did the right thing, going before the school holidays started in the rest of England, we avoided the town in the middle of the day, ate in the hostel mostly, and french bread and olives and hummus at picnic benches outside - dh (of course) was feeding sparrows in the palm of his hand.He went in the sea for about twenty minutes on the Tuesday, hired a wet suit, tried out his frozen shoulder, woke up the next morning with loads more mobility and lots less pain. The healing waters of Whitby. He is delighted, as he was not expecting it at all.I walked miles and miles, one day I was up and down the 199 steps 6 times. Did over 21k steps one of the days, and not less than 11km any day, but I have not lost any weight as they have this brilliant bakery, called c00plands, that does vegan devonshire cream slices, and iced fingers and parkin, and biscuits, and it is labelled vegan, and the kids were in there, and so I followed as I am an easily led sheep. baa! I was on holiday!!But on coming back the scales told me I have put on a few lbs, which are coming straight back off again- I got up early this morning, and went for a run, only managed 2.7km (2 miles) and it was a proper slog, so that is needed - had a liquid breakfast, lunch was one pitta, hummus and masses of salad and naked coleslaw, followed by fruit salad, Supper tonight DH made a chickpea pasta one-pot thing, and another bowl of fruit salad. Nothing naughty has been consumed today at all. Most of the laundry has been washed and dried,I have bought in food for the next few days. The house was hoovered and tidied before I left - so nothing to do thereBought myself 5 ys potted plants in Mr T's this morning - they were £1.20 each, some are a mystery - they are labelled as fuchsia, but 3 of them most definitely are not - so I have 'triffids' until they turn into whatever they really are - I should be able to tell when they bloom. So they have all been put in the front of the pots with the Rose Campion behind them as a foil. The few peas I have left have pods on them!! The slugs have decimated 3 pots worth of cukes and french beans. Everything else is recovering with a good watering and being shaded by my massive quantities of laundry on the line.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

So nice that you have seen the Puffins and had good weather.
C00plands do very nice treats, if you or anyone else visit York they have a C00plands near the main Bettys, (opposite, couple of doors down) as a cheaper alternative but still very very good.MFW - 01.10.21 £63761 01.10.22 £50962 01.10.23 £39979 01.10.24 £27815. 01.01.25. £17538

Not quite sure what message that sends to the kids when they're told 'don't bother, it's only the last week of term' but suppose the teachers don't want to spend 10 days of their holiday in CV prison.
Congratulations on your puffin spotting F0xh0les. Sounds amazing.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

My kids stopped being taught anything a full 3 weeks before the end of term - there was a whole rash of testing in main subjects (which I assume will be for the purposes of 'streaming' next academic year) but as soon as that was over, then it was watching films in every subject, and of course extra PE lessons.
