Well they are magical creatures indeed. They waited until I was out, and then rang, spoke to dh, came round, had a look, did not complain the house had too many floors, did not complain about slate, and went off again on their mystical steed, in the magical rain. They were the ones that came 2 years ago and said not to bother with the expense until tiles started slipping. They were very concerned at the idea of me having to pay out such a large amount, and suggested I saved up while waitingI had the money, I should have just insisted, but hey, they were the experts, I was just the bird with the roof, and they said it was really really bad, but fine for another year or two. Anyway, I will expect a written quote, they are very good, and although I did not see them, and there is no proof they were ever here (not a spot of fairy dust or glitter), I believe....... and if dh were going to make up a story, it would involve everyone dying at the end and being made into Turtle soup. Anyway, there seems to be some kind of movement on the 'getting work done' front.I saw the diy store do a planning and fitting service and I am very close to just throwing the whole lot in the F - it - Bucket and walking in and booking them there and then for the whole shebang. Anyway, while feeling brave, I went out to the big diy store and picked up their latest catalogue of kitchens and bathrooms so dh can show me what he likes. Forewarned is forearmed.I found a pair of jeans in the c/s for £2.75.I picked up 2 big glass vases from the local f/book gifting site, one can be used as hurricane candle holder if I put some sand in the bottom, one can be used for the long flowers I buy dh because I lurve him and he likes flowers.Went to another c/s and bought a small lampshade for the small lamp (obv). I was going to recover it, but dh likes it, and if he does not mind an orange lampshade on a red lamp base, then fine. Job done for 75p. It makes my eyes bleed, but he likes colour and it clashes beautifully with his golden thrones.Bought everything I need for Monday's lunchboxes with my £4 free money from postal surveys from The Land of Ice.Made scones and whipped the Elmlea double cream to make a cream tea for dh when I brought the kids back from school.Cashed out a £10
2 Sh0p card for reward points on survey site. It will appear in the post in the next 10 days.
Cashed out the rest on £4 worth of Amaz0n vouchers. And for some ridiculous reason I spent an hour looking at vegan advent calendars this morning. Shame on me.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Think I must have been lucky then! We have a general builder who has done quite a bit of work for us over the last couple of years but he's so busy if you need something done urgently then unlikely to be able to fit you in. Fortunately not had that problem. Also have a plumber who services our boiler every year, even though BG said our boiler needed replacing - he said no way I can still get parts for it, although this year he's told us we ought to start saving for a new boiler as we may well need one in a couple of years or so.
We've also found a bricklayer who can fit in small jobs but not larger jobs and another general builder whose main business is roofing so also useful. We used him for a couple of slipped tiles a couple of years ago.
So overall we've got most things covered.

Lamp sounds quite fab F0xh0les , esp clashing with the yellow throne.
I tried to get a quote from a window company once who were doing a job down our road, the sales guy would only book an appt when OH was home, whom i assured him after a long day at work had about as much interest in doors and windows as rolling about naked in a pile of Lego. But thank you very much for the patronising attitude as it saved me sitting through their tedious sales spiel and he could just foxtrot off thanks very much. I got several phone calls from their local office (who seemed to think he was right) and their head office where i think a slightly mortified lady was about to issue a swift and sever b0ll0cking after I filled her in on all the details.
We've since had the work done by a fabulous local company.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Belated birthday greetings to Mr f0xy
I, too, have had a window salesman refuse to book an appt unless Dh was here - as he worked away during the week at the time it was nigh on impossible to sort - anyway, he had a week off and we booked 5 companies to quote for windows over a few days (expecting 3 to show - but, no, all 5 did....) - this particular company the chap was stood in my kitchen and I mentioned to him that we'd looked before at getting them in but couldn't because they'd insisted DH was around and he said words to the effect that that was because they wanted us to sign up straight off - they were one of those cos who phone head office for a better deal etc.... He then was escorted straight out of the front door - i Think I actually shoo-ed him out with a few very harsh words from me - total time spent in my house was approx 2 mins.... Dh may earn the money here to pay for things but I'm the one who tends to choose the workmen and designsI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £205 -
DH earns the money, pays the mortgage and the phone, and then halves whatever is left and pays it to me to look after the kids, so really I am on about £15k tax free + child benefits, which I save as much as I can to put to the fund for the house. DH wants it done, but he would prefer not to have to deal with workmen/quotes/ appointments where nobody turns up.Anyway, I am glad the nice roofers came. I await their quote.I have just folded 4 loads of dry laundry and the kitchen table has a pile for each child. I really need to stop them using 3 towels per bath-time. There simply is not that much m2 of them to dry!I am going to try and eat from the freezer this week, I have £5 due from Mr T's and a £10 voucher I can use in Land of Ice or Wilk0 coming in the post this month. So meal plans will include - cabbage and ' bacon' and potatoes / Toad in the hole (ys sausages again!) and roasted root veg / Mock Duck pancakes and miso soup and jasmine tea / Potato and sweetcorn chowder and garlic bread/ Pea and mint soup / Sausage and sauerkraut / Greek shredded 'meat', pittas and salad / hummus and pittas / veg stew and dumplings / pizza. There is 5 boxes of cereal, and 10 litres of milk in the pantry, so I only need to think about the odd bit of lunchbox clutter on Monday and I should not need to buy food at all !!! yay!!!DH starts teaching from home on Monday, so I now have a timetable to follow when I shall go out on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and I am out all day on Thursday anyway. However, my favourite 'old person' charity shop reopens on 6th October and I cannot wait to get back in there!Have a good weekend peoples.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
