He seems quite happy with his sweets and nearly £200 worth of cash and gift cards (he has no idea what he wants, so he is collecting instead). The shortbread was a hit. It is also not something you can eat a lot of, so there is half left for later. Good job on the shortbread too, the recipe on the side of the Ald1 flour packet can be recommended. Not made shortbread since I was at school, I think.I made a pesto pasta for lunch with doughballs and dipping oils and garlic bread. I found some fusilli lunghi col buco with a ys, and somehow different shapes of pasta are quite exciting in our house, it is like a thicker spaghetti, but with a curly kink, like goldilocks' hair. It is my new favourite pasta shape. Corkscrewy pasta. Then a small square of shortbread and that was that.I have washed up, and have made a cup of tea, and now I am congratulating myself for having successfully managed to grow another human being to maturity - DS1 will be 18 in a fortnight as well, if I do not overwater him. Shame they don't come with a care label and an instruction leaflet.DH is also gaining a year on Friday, anyone would think it was 9 months after New Year, I do wonder if other people were celebrating not being at their in-laws for Xmas anymore, or celebrating their Xmas guests leaving. Or I suppose it could just have been a drunken snuggle, but it is no coincidence there is a surge in births in September/October-time.That is my wisdom for the day.f0xh0les 0ut.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Numbers!!My mortgage is sub £90k by one pence. Whoopee! That is DH's birthday present for tomorrow. A sub £90k house debt. Every little thing we do adds value. Getting down to £88k will mean 45% is paid off, and that will be in December 2020. Getting closer every month now.... we paid £133.15 in interest in September - over 1/4 of the monthly repayment went on paying back that interest. £4.43 a day. So that is the £4.50 target beaten.I wish I could pay more off, but the work needs doing, and if I can put away £300 a month into my renovations fund regularly, every single month, then I will be able to use that money for over payments once I get the works done. No wonder I feel skint all the time. £300 on bills a month, £300 to savings, £400 on food £80ish on mortgage o/ps and the other £200ish on petrol and clothes and kids shoes and trips and birthdays and charity payments and fixing/replacing things.I am waiting for tradespeople to get back to me. I rang plumbers and roofers, it is like nobody wants my money. Still waiting for official quotes from the people who came to quote (pouf! gone!), and for phone calls from those who have not yet been to quote (tumbleweed).Anyway, the mortgage is now £89,999.99 and the next goal to aim for is £88k with a new roof and bathroom.I may have to strong-arm DH into a bathroom store at the weekend. Wish me luck, I do not rate my chances.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Congrats on the mortgage.
I know what you mean about trades not getting back to you, although I do at least have my kitchen being delivered next week and someone coming to fit it. It might be an idea for me to order the worktops, sink, tap and cooker hood. They're also going to do the front and back doors while they're here if I get round to ordering them on time.
Getting hold of a roofer, or anyone to come and do the hedges is impossible. Thankfully I've found someone to do the odd jobs on a regular basis.5 -
What I'd like to know is where all these tradespeople actually are because everyone I speak to has the same issues. Either they don't respond at all, they come round but never provide an actual quote, or on a rare occasion they do quote you can't then get hold of them to do the actual job. Perhaps they're all working on some castle in Middle earth where they're entirely unreachable?Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
