well done. Can you block the ferry-booking site?
You may feel guilty, but your kids need to come first. Your step gran has carers, and is well looked after. She can abuse you over the phone instead. Not necessarily as satisfying for her, but staying away at least gives her something to moan about, while it’s cheaper and less time-consuming for you. Plus you can use a speakerphone and get on with something more interesting!
Don’t give in to the guilt. It’s conditioning and you need to resist.0 -

Blimey O' Reilly!
Just back from the 150 minute interview. It was not an interview. It might have been an interview if I had no experience and was 17 (there were a few of those). It was pretty much utter nonsense.
Lots of group activities - a jigsaw that was really 2 jigsaws split between 3 other groups, having to do 3 presentations on the core values of the company, I hate presentations with a passion, a few what would you do if? scenarioswith a vague nod toward customer service . Honestly!
I am sorry, but I cannot have more than one 'I love youtube videos - don't you?' conversations in one day. They were mostly only about a year older than DS1, and I was amused by them, and their statements about their life experience - most were aspiring/training actors - with names like Solomon and Pollyanna - and with possibly 2 exceptions, were on the whole, pretty da-mn awful!
I have no idea why on earth they bothered asking for a cv as they did not refer to any experience and asked no questions whatsoever. Oh well, I suppose at least they did not ask me to dance an interpretation of my favourite flavour of sherbert. That was going to be the next ridiculous task - I am sure of it. Or maybe to mime my favourite chemical bonding. !!!!!!!!! what a ridiculous waste of two and a half hours of my time.
Well, no money spent anyway as parking is free in the centre of town on a Sunday. I put make up on for the first time since the funeral I went to last year (or was it the year before?) I look good when I make an effort. I mean I look really good, unless the hayfever hits and I forget and rub my eyes, then I look like a bewildered panda. I have found I do not have a colour of lipstick that suits me though. No idea what has happened, but my favourite plum colour looks odd on me now. Will have to start wearing slap again, lots of effect for little effort.
I am reading a set of books at the minute, in which the heroine is a daft bint. I am actually getting really annoyed with her - she keeps doing stupid things and sleeping with the wrong people. I am so glad I have boys not girls. I am too judgemental to have girls. I would not do it well, I fear. I have just finished book 4 and I have book 6 but not 5, so might have to cash in some vouchers as they are not the kind of book you can read out of order. Even if the heroine is an idiot, I want to see who she finally ends up with. Not sure if any of them deserve to be saddled with her to be honest. Plot twist!!
Ooh, I am so annoyed by that rubbish 'assessment' fiasco.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

"Interview" sounds truly dreadful. I hate group activities in that sort of situation with a passion, and you have painted a vivid picture of the whole scenario !!! Chalk it down to experience. Now you have considered one possible vacancy you will probably find others (minus the PollyAnnas) will appear. Also, totally agree with the others, no guilt allowed- resist at all costs. I am lost for words regarding the awfulness of the interview, feel sorry for them if they ever have to enter the real world. I wonder what their parents are like?
Your book reminds me of how I felt about 'The Girl on the Train' which I read because I felt I should as 'everyone' else was. I disliked most of the characters from the off, with perhaps the exception of the bit part friend / flat mate who really should have put her big girl pants on regarding helping her friend before things escalated. I hated the film even more...mainly because the whole premise of the book was it being centred around a London commute..and flipping Hollywood set it in America :wall: I mean what next, LOTR being set at Hogwarts?Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

One of the mums at the school gates was talking about The Girl on the Train last week, she loved the book, but hated the film for the Hollywood relocation treatment it got. I was really surprised, as I would have bet you £50 in a heartbeat she had never read a book since leaving school (that actually sounds really b1tchy but I don't mean it that way). I would have been less surprised if the vicar's wife had started a discussion on bondage and swinging while waiting for basketball practice to end. But she said she couldn't put the book down. Guess you were not the target audience kerri
Only 5 more school days until Easter hols,
3 full days (one morning + one afternoon) of exam prep for DS1 in the first week, and a half day one day in the second week, but DH is away the last weekend. So not sure if I will get away for my puffin-plotting-plan this Easter, I might have to do it on a 'normal' weekend - looked at the RSPB site and it said there were about 50 puffins sighted yesterday. I want MORE!! greedy madam that I am.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Morning.
Just delurking to mention that I spent a glorious sunny day with loads of puffins on the island of Skomer a few years ago. It was a day trip, so DH, DD & I caught the boat from the mainland. There’s nothing on the island except lots of birds, not even a cafe so we took a packed lunch. It was such a good day - so many puffins everywhere. We had previously been to Bempton and not seen any.

Your interview is the stuff of all of my worst nightmares f0xh0les. It really should be illegal to make people do stuff like that...
However, I love the way you write it up. :rotfl:
By the way, I like having a girl and a boy and I am very lucky that my dd has an amazing, sensible head on her shoulders. Her worst decisions focus around fake tan...Not giving up

Thanks tjp70, DH is not up for driving more than 3 hours and whines and complains the whole time. Bless - knee injury that stops him doing anything apart from what he wants to do. Might just have to jettison the rest and go puffining on my own. I have just invented a verb. To puffin.
CCL - oh my god it was awful. Some of the kids (17-21 yr olds ) even turned up in tracksuit bottoms - I mean really? Maybe an old lady like me, at 44, with actual experience, is not who they are after. Maybe I should just book myself a course in silent communication and the arts, in preparation for a career in the probation service. pah!
Right, tidy the house day, quick inventory so I can provide soft foods for poor dh and his sewn up mouth - soon it will be over and he will have his replacement tooth. So, I will roast up a tray of veg, and make a big rice pudding, and make a veg stew with lots of bits and things and ends of stuff - so I know where I am and can just whip stuff out of the fridge and reheat for evening meals this week. Ta-Dah! fashion.
The roads were empty this morning, so city schools must be off this week too. I need to find fun things to do over the Easter hols - I have the football club for 8 days for DS3&4, and a few trips to odeon kids will be planned - I think the lego movie will be on, there is a St George's day parade and festival on in town, ds1's study sessions, and a car boot sale planned, but it does not feel enough - they will probably just want to play fifa on the play station though and will try and scupper my plans for them. Oh well! I have plenty to be occupying myself with if they decide sitting on their bums until football practice is the way they want to spend their hols (everything stops for football practice).4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
