So you think someone has bid £17.51 (+ £2.50 P&P) on gift cards that expired over 4 years ago?

The expiry date won't be on the card as it lasts for 12 months from purchase date. They're not going to write this on with a biro every day.

As lincroft correctly stated it doesn't need to be on the card.

Either you have received some PM's from the op explaining what she received with her gift card, or you're doing your normal trick of stating legal definites when you don't have the full information.

Can you please clarify which one is it?

Well maybe it expires on 6th December then :p
  • The expiry date is given on the receipt. It's expected that the receipt is kept with the card, as it also states how much has been loaded on the card.

(I bought a voucher two weeks ago, wouldn't use them myself but a friend's son wanted it towards a football shirt.)

It does say on the back of the cardboard the gift card is mounted on that the card will expire and the balance will be nil if not used within 12 months of purchase.

Usually a lot of gift cards are valid for 12 months since last used!
12 months from purchase/last transaction or even balance check on the card can count as 'last used' for a lot of stores

At what point do you think they would need to tell you it will only be valid for 12 months in order for it to be a legally enforceable term and not have the effect of binding the consumer to hidden terms (especially ones that only benefit 1 party to the contract to the disadvantage of the other)?

You know, I'm starting to wonder if your recent obsession with my posts has anything to do with me expressing opposite viewpoints to your own on a particular political thread. If not, thats some coincidence. You are of course free to carry on misunderstanding and twisting what I say in yet another attempt to carry on the argument but personally, I'd advise you to be ilke elsa and let it go.

JD don't appear to load balances. They appear to sell cards of a set value.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • Hello and thank you for all the replies. I have looked at the back of the gift cards, there is no expiry date on them.

The appalling customer service relates to an 18 minute phonecall with their customer services department where the supervisor - who was giving advice to his colleague refused to speak to me as it was 'peak time' and they were 'busy' even though he was already involved in the matter. Further mor told me peak time was 9am till 7pm - BIG PEAK TIME!!!!

The cards were given as gifts to a minor - a teenage boy who saved them up from birthdays and christmas etc. I do not require any further purchase from JD Sports as I don't shop there. Hence why vouchers are no good to me now.
  • Thank you for your comments. My expectations? See below E Mail. I worked in Customer Services for many years I know what the service was like and the excuses they made. As I said at the time to the person on the phone I did not have a personal issue with them, I noted they were being advised and what I wanted to do was escalate the matter further which was denied. That was unacceptable. Also the gift cards in question do not have an expiry date on them.
  • The vouchers also are pre stated as with a value i.e. £10 ....

Surely in the next 12 months you can find something you need that JD Sports sell e.g. trainers, t shirts etc.
