Which of course is a fantasy. Every government says it will raise a few billions from a clampdown on tax evasion and avoidance and none ever raise a penny. £500bn, the equivalent of the entire current HMRC tax take, to be raised by the fiscal equivalent of looking down the back of the sofa.

Which will reverse the gains made to the Exchequer when Osborne lowered the rate from 50p to 45p (see Laffer curve).

So Corbyn's plans will be financed through one measure that will raise precisely £0 and one measure that we know will reduce tax receipts.

    Brilliant eh? Only in 2+2=5land.

whilst agreeing that clamping down on tax evasion is the usual opposition fantasy (whether tory or labour or libdem) ; the 45/50 % tax changes under Osborne were not a test of the Laffer curve theory as they were pre announced with time to anticipate the changes.
  • Did anyone watch the programme about Momementum last night? I seemed to have better things to do:

    -a white wash
    -ironing
-cake baking (banana, ginger & golden syrup loaf)
    -trimming my toenails

Your time was clearly better spent.

I need a documentary to tell me the Labour Party has been overrun by loonies like I need one to tell me it's cold on the moon.

There are no coherent costed policies. It's all very well promising the earth in opposition, but where will the money come from?

Higher rates of income tax and CT is what he's said......oh and he wants to set up his own bank and print his own money...and THAT is NOT a joke...that's what he really wants to do...he wants to get rid of an independent BoE and set up a "People's Bank" - print £500 billion and spend it on infrastructure...

£500bn investment fund from clamping down on tax evasion and reintroducing the 50p rate.

Now who in their right mind wouldn't vote for populist garbage like that?

No - the £500 billion comes from printing his own helicopter money......no joke....

Two or three then, unless you include people like me who have never voted Tory but don't like the direction momentum and Corbyn are taking the party and others who support centre parties.

That makes you a Tory in RT's world. But he will still be knocking on your door and asking you to vote Labour in 2020.

I watched both - Dispatches and Panorama. The party has been taken over by Trots.

Corbyn victory? It’s a strangely liberating feeling
Put bluntly: as soon as Corbyn wins again, we’re off, and we’re taking our votes with us. For me, this feeling is totally new and unexpected, even rather liberating. It’s one thing to leave the Labour party, quite another not to even vote for Labour.

Is this what the Corbyn-effect has unleashed: a brand new political force – what could be termed the “post-Labour free range voter”? People, like myself, who have not only spent their lives voting for Labour but have done so automatically, “tribally”, not seriously considering other options.
“Confused” being the operative word. At first anyway, it felt akin to a bird being released back into the wild, but just sitting on the ground, flapping its wings pathetically. However, that passes, and it becomes quite interesting to ask: If not Labour, who?

    conference.jpg?resize=540%2C319
Labour MPs are shunning their party’s conference in Liverpool this weekend after deciding there is not much point in being there. Guido has spoken to some Labour MPs who aren’t even bothering to make the trip at all, and several more who only plan to show their face for a day. It is a four day event – five if you include Jezza’s victory celebrations – and unsurprisingly they don’t want to spend that long with a bunch of nutters who want to deselect them. Fringe event organisers have been ringing round MPs’ offices asking for speakers, but are being told MPs are not available. Can you blame them?
