http://news.sky.com/story/momentum-kids-jeremy-corbyns-backers-launch-childrens-wing-10584487You can't start them off young enough when it comes to politics: Jeremy Corbyn's supporters are setting up a youth wing to nurture the next generation of political activists.
Momentum Kids will launch nationwide across 150 local groups, with the aim of boosting the political involvement of children and the Corbyn-supporting activist movement by "promoting political activity that is fun, engaging and child-friendly".
Dubbed "Tiny Trots" by Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron, Momentum will run a kids' programme at a four-day festival on the fringes of the Labour conference next weekend.
Children will be able to attend campaigning workshops and story-telling sessions as part of the arts, music, politics and cultural event in Liverpool. If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -
Yes, he is.
But he will never be elected. So in the meantime, I'm left with no-one realistic to vote for to oppose a party I currently have no wish to be governing me (Tories).ruggedtoast wrote: »You will come round.0 -

The media out in force I see - kinda supports the Jezza line about the MSM not being exactly unbiased.I think....0

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Judging by a Huffington Post article about the edited highlights, you're likely to be disappointed unless you consider the following to be exciting revelations:
1) Momentum and the Corbyn leadership campaign are basically the same thing
2) Momentum is full of old-school 1970s Trotskyite headbangers
3) Momentum wants to take over Labour and purge the counter-revolutionary Blairite traitors
4) The Unite trade union is in bed with the hard left
I won't be watching but let us know if there's anything especially amusing that we've missed.0 -
We know that Yeremiy Khorbiyn will win back every seat in Scotland in 2020, but that leaves him needing to take around 50 to 60 seats from the Tories to achieve a majority.
Just for fun, let's have a look at some of the seats Yeremiy needs to win.
Hastings and Rye is around the 53rd most marginal Tory seat, so it's one Yeremiy has to win. Wikipedia observes that "The constituency...does not enjoy some of the more general affluence of this part of the country. In the 2000 index of multiple deprivation a majority of wards fell within the bottom half of rankings so it can arguably be considered a deprived area."
Rich pickings there for Yeremiy then? Er, no. In 2015 vote shares were as follows:
CON vote / LAB vote / LIB vote / UKIP vote / Green vote
25,406 / 15,325 / 1,935 / 5,957 / 2,240
Tory majority: 10,081
So let's look at another. What about Stevenage? Again according to Wiki, "The main town is known for its fast rail links to London and proximity to Luton Airport which accompanies a few headquarters of global businesses based in the seat. Workless claimants, registered jobseekers, were in November 2012 higher than the national average". Rich pickings there for the rich old Trot, then? Er, no:
CON vote / LAB vote / LIB vote / UKIP vote / Green vote
23,897 / 14,051 / 1,912 / 6,022 / 1,673
Tory majority: 9,846
Hmm. Well, what about Harlow? As marginal number 80 this is one Yeremiy must take if it doesn't all go according to plan in Scotland. Wikipedia notes that "Unemployment is frequently around 10%,[citation needed] higher than the national average in the UK. Harlow also has a large number of people in social housing, almost 30%[19] of dwellings being housing association and local authority owned" - so that's votes in the bag for Yeremiy, no? Well, no actually:
CON vote / LAB vote / LIB vote / UKIP vote / Green vote / Other
24,124 / 11,155 / 1,195 / 6,330 / 1,239 / 221
Tory majority: 12,969
Oh dear! It looks like the message is going to have to change if Yeremiy wants to win. Which I think we all know he doesn't.0 -
Just seen Peter Kyle (the only Labour MP in the South East outside London on Politics show. There is an expose on Momentum, (Dispatches Monday night). It shows a secretly taped meeting in which the chair of his local party, (Brighton) talks openly about his deselection. It comes to something when your own membership hates you more than the tories!
Seen all this in the 80s Moby. The left only ever want to fight to take control of the LP - they never take the fight to the Tories.
I know you are determined to stay in the LP but I honestly think Labour is finished. A new left of centre party has to emerge, I'm just not sure when or how.
If many of the centre left politicians get deselected maybe this is when the new party will emerge.0 -

Steady on. Whilst it may have been Corbyn's best performance to date - he hasn't set the bar very high....0 -
I see Labour intend to appoint a general secretary who is currently a member of the Communist Party........0
