urgent advice required/width of extension

we are having an extension, plans have been approved showing full width of house to rear extension.
however, builder saying that we need to leave a gap and are not allowed to build to edge of house,
is this correct as it has substantially reduced the width
advice required urgently, I have trawled internet but cannot find any thing similar to this problem.
I need to sort this out with him before he starts any further building
most other extensions I have seen are full width and ones where both houses have had extensions there is no gap at all

you need to ask the builder why he disagrees with the opinion of your architect, and the council planning and building regs offices. In other words:And his proof of what's allowed is what?0 -
It's hard to visualise where the gap is and how it would help make repairs in the future.
Could you give us a diagram?0 -
Do you mean your attached neighbour has an extension on the boundary and you want to build your extension attached to this but he wants to leave a gap to the neighbours wall?0
-
You would need to post a plan for those who know about the things you are asking. It's just a thought. Good luck!0

ours is a semi-detached house, neighbour does not have extension yet but may do so in future.
our plans show extension in line with where our house ends and neighbours begins.
but builder has let about 12" gap
other houses I have seen have been built up to full extent of house or
extensions on both houses joined together
even if our neighbour built an extension there would not be any room for a person to physically do anything within that gapNice to save.0 -

he says architect measured incorrectly into neighbours property, but our drawings show extension in line with our existing roof lineNice to save.0
