How much rent should my parents charge me?

Who me????
Oops my bad
Forgive me?
Still I cannot see how asking earning children to contribute to the household is profiteering and tbh that discussion does belong to a different/new thread
In this case the op has been told £50.
How the parents came to this amount we won't ever know as we have only one side of the story. The op can afford this out of their income but wants to save End of the day the op either pays up or moves to cheaper accomadation, or increases their earnings.0 -

The last paragraph didn't reference being a parent and was directly addressed to you. I would suggest you read it again
The last paragraph (sentence) is addressed in the plural. It's traditional when addressing one person directly not to refer to them as 'people'.
However, I grasp the point that I (and other people) make you laugh because you don't agree with us.
Cool.;)

You say I don't have much tolerance for people who don't share my views and then post a long rant about how I am wrong for not charging my son rent.
So to sum up your view, because I don't charge my son rent he is in a state of perpetual subordination to me. :rotfl::rotfl:
I do love how you parents who like to make money out of their children try and pour scorn on parents (and their children) who don't see it necessary to charge them rent to enable them to save quicker for a deposit.
I don't charge my son rent and despite what you (and some of the unpleasant people on this forum may think) this hasn't lead to the rearing of a selfish parasite who i keep repressed under my authoritarian heel.
You people make me laugh
Make money out there children, no perhaps teach there children things cost money(no one said making money). Well done your in a position not to take keep, does he know how much it costs to run your house or is he in for a shock. Your teaching him nothing not even taking a token payment.0 -

Forgotten already:)
Completely agree. This has been my view throughout.
I was quite offended by the profiteering remark, even though this doesn't apply to my personal circumstances, and as a result seem to have become embroiled in some handbags at dawn type exchange with Thunderbird, which is irrelevant to the OP.

Yeah you know I was referencing the paragraph above my final sentence which specifically referenced you. Still it's always sensible to try and move the argument away from the main point when you know you're in the wrong.
Myself (and other people) see the benefits of not profiting from your own children. I also disagree with your point that not charging rent creates an unhealthily relationship between a parent and their off Spring.
i was reading the other thread about the woman who found out her husband was having an affair and you've basically accused her of being a liar and making the whole thing up. It seems like you deliberately try and be confrontational.
There really is no need to act like that0 -
Well guess what?
I have my mum live with us. She has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sitting room for her own use. How she uses those bedrooms is !!!! all to do with me
How much do I "charge" her? Half the rates and half the heating oil
Not even a third of her old rates bill
She gets fed FOC 6 days a week. Electic, free. Coal and logs, Free
So ok mum ain't my child, she's an adult. But it's the same thing
No way am I profiteering
I find your post most offensive
Mum could move into a 3 bedroom house. She's have the mortgage /rates to pay. All the heating. The electic. The maintenance and the food.
Our daughter and kids can move in next week, and guess what? Household bills will still be split
Yes I guess I could manage without mum paying her 'share' but why should I? If she weren't here I'd have a lovely two bedroom flat or house and my own bills would be halved
I don't understand any of your post. Why does your mum living with you and making use of so many rooms mean anything? Why would she move out into a 3 bed if she would be living alone? Then the talk of a 2 bed jumps in from somewhere.
Sorry I don't understand your point. My post clearly wasn't aimed at you (unless you're charging your mum rent to teach her budgeting skills?)
No need to be offended. It's just an opinion0 -

That makes no sense.
Why would taking a token payment teach him how much it costs to run your own house?
The only way to show him this is to charge him the same amount of money as if he was renting a room privately. Although that would be personally financially lucrative that's not how I roll.0 -

I don't understand either.
It seems that if her Mum wasn't living with her she would downsize to a 2 bedroom place but for some reason her mum living with her means she needs five bedrooms.
I'm absolutely fascinated by this!0 -
Why would anyone have kids and then charge them for their existence?
How are kids ever going to save enough money to buy a house if their parents take their money?0
