We've bought blinds from blinds2go - made to measure and lots of colour options. Good price for made to measure - I hate cutting roller blinds! :)

Thank you Greent I can imagine fraying could be an issue with cut to measure.

    Morning Bob,
A bit behind the times, but glad that DD is Ok, head bumps are always really scary.
I didn't know there was an updated "how to win friends/influence..." version - will need to look that up - read the original probably 10 years ago! I am a people watcher (not the creepy sort I hasten to add:D) and have come across some amazing people who put everything perfectly into practice. I always found I was fine with building relationships unless money/own business was involved - then somehow it is so much harder to do......yet I am happy enough doing the exact same thing if it is fundraising for a charity or another cause? That's probably why I will never be "rich" in making money terms!

Interesting NOA. As you rightly say money is a tricky one isnt it. For example, at the moment I am owed money by several people. One of whom is just being very tricky. I have invested time and effort into a relationship already. I just don't know how to resolve it. Maybe its impossible? My sticking point is this, at the moment I need the money more than they need the venue, it would appear. So I can't ever say to people, pay up by X or I'm cancelling on you, because I always need the money, whenever they deign (sp?) to pay it. Obviously if you suddenly have people all clammering for the same date, you have leverage, but oddly that doesn't happen very often.
Anyway, you end up judging people badly by this sort of behavior, which of course isn't on the table when you are just friends with someone, because money doesn't come up very often.

    Hi All

Hope you are ok and not soaked, the heavens opened earlier and my newly hung washing was covered in hail stones and torrential rain in seconds. Wont bother bringing that in today then...

I had a bit of an epiphany last night. Yesterday was full on. I ended up doing 3 hours of walking in total, two journeys to and from the venue because of opening up and locking up, then an hours cleaning, plus home stuff. I felt utterly drained by 7.30, I still dont think my legs have recovered from Saturday!

We then had one of those evenings where, DD had dropped off at about 5pm in the buggy, so normal bedtime was not happening...we spent the evening with her up until 10pm, whilst trying to eat dinner, unwind (ha) etc.
It hit me that, if I tried to do a 'normal' job that would probably be how my life would be on a regular basis. It certainly was with DS when he was a baby. I used to take him to and from work with me on the bus because his nursery was close to my work, which actually worked quite well in some regards, not so in others. Walking in the door at 7pm with it all still to do? That's hard.
Anyway DH and I were chatting over a cup of tea today, and I was running through my list of irritants at the moment as usual. No money, clients not paying, long hours, physically demanding, & then I said to him. It feels like its either choose life or choose money. Or having it.
I do so much around the house, that there is no way I'd get done if I wasn't erratically at home.

So sometimes, having a difficult day, reminds you of why you committed to things in the first place.

I will remind myself of this tonight when its time for round two ;)

    Bob

    I find it fascinating Bob.
Even though I have been SE'd for 16 years now, I still find it embarrassing having to chase for money :( not good Business sense I know:o
It's taken me a long while to realise, but Money per se isn't my motivator, which is why I find that part difficult.
Oops, Just realised the time .....dash for school run:rotfl:

Ah Bob - I'm so pleased that you can look on your current situation so favourably. I can agree with the 'normal' job thing. There are times (like now) where I can barely get a thing done other than work.
And ds chased a cat into his room, who promptly scrambled up the blinds and they now let an awful lot of light in, strangely in the shape of scratches...

Yes, and sorry if it sounded smug or anything like that, it certainly wasn't supposed to be. I think I have made less in the 5 years I've been SE than in 1 year of having a 'normal job' so that's a huge reason not to make that choice.

Ha ha to the cat up the curtains thing. I really would NEVER have got that one :rotfl:

    Morning All

Bit of an easier day today (I think) just one round trip to do and not till 10 this morning. I do the beds on a Thursday, so will crack on with that first.

Last day of April's budget before OH gets paid tomorrow. It really hasn't been a great month financially at all. Mainly spending far too much in the supermarket because everyone has been off a lot. And not earning enough to cover my side of the bills. But May will be a new month and the routine being back will help with spends.

Hope everyone has a good Thursday.

    Bob

Bob lovely to read your post last night, didn't seem smug at all. We all make decisions in life and most of us can't have it it all, time with the smalls, money, best job ever etc.. so I think your approach is very sensible and to be commended. Hope May is very fruitful for you and your family.

    Perps x
  • I hope May is a better month for you. As you say, I think getting back to your normal routine will help. I always find the whole month of December really difficult in terms of excessive spending. It's not just Christmas shopping but the all the disruptions leading up to the event with xmas parties, concerts etc etc and the contagious 'anything goes' attitude floating around at that time of year (Yes, I am a right old grinch!)
