If they don't, ask if nearby branches do. I think SS said they can look up to see if branches have them? (although I am not 100% on this!)

Ok thanks. After a clear out I've found £107.62 in loose change!

Whatever's wrong with getting empty money bags from the bank and counting out the money yourself?

That way you're not giving Coinstar their 7% cut

If you know that it's exactly £107.62, then you've clearly counted it yourself already, which makes the coin machine redundant. Just put it in plastic bags and take it to the counter.

I love coinstar - because loads of people 'miss' emptying the reject slot.

    Found over £2 in one once - inc. 2 x £1 coins!

Ok. I was just thinking that using the coin machine would be better than paying in £107 in loose change during a lunchtime. If it's all bagged up is it quick for the cashier to sort it?

    They weigh it.

Ask your bank for some cash bags and bag it up accordingly - £1 for copper - not mixed ie all 2p or all 1p etc...
Then when you pay it in they weigh it. Ask if they have a daily maximum. Post Offices will take it too.

They just weigh it, make sure the different values of coin are in separate bags (so 1p's in one bag, 2p's in another, ...).

Tbh, it really doesn't take that long to sit down and count even a few hundred pounds of coin, just clear the kitchen table, and get counting!

Most banks have a limit of a few bags per customer per day (other than kids' and charities' accounts).
By using the HSBC machines you avoid the harsh Coinstar charges and the bank's limits.

Can they only be used on current accounts or are there any savings accounts I can use it with? :)
