  • That's what makes me so peeved. The kids I teach think that they're entitled to whatever they want, whenever they want it, without any effort on their part. I have been so busy today that I barely stopped. I have a full teaching day on a Tuesday, plus I was running a science form class, plus a revision session after school. The kids couldn't have been less interested. I think I'm going to tell my head of department that I don't want to do it again next week. Why should I be giving my free time up in order to babysit a lazy load of kids?
Did do my good turn for the day though. A colleague and good friend of mine's mam died over the weekend. He was in at work today because he said it was too depressing staying at home, but he was clearly struggling a bit, so I did his break duty for him. As a result I've had a grand total of 20 minutes break between 8.15 this morning and 4.15 this evening. Pretty exhausting, and once again thank goodness for leftovers.
I don't know if I mentioned about a job I had applied for - it would be in addition to the teaching, working higher up for the exam board. I would love to do it, but had talked myself out of applying half a dozen times and making a million excuses. My head of department talked me into applying and I put a form in very last minute. Anyway, I've got an interview. I'm already utterly terrified about it, but worse than that some of my practical worries have come into play. It's during half term which is brilliant, but it's in London. I can do London and back in a day but what do I do with ds? Seriously? Panic, panic. I'm too tired from work today to be thinking rationally about it at the moment. I didn't even realise it was during half term at first so my brain is most definitely off right now.
Managed another nsd, and am just about to take ds off to football training. He's got training twice this week, which I could probably do without to be honest. My brain is very busy and anxiety is very high now. How can I even think about putting myself into such a stressful position? Argh! :wall:

Cat First of all, congratulations on the interview. That is a brilliant thing all on its own.

You can do Newcastle to London and back in a day? Isn't that like super far?

Could you ask for help from the Mum on your street who your son plays with the son of? Surely for one day he could just camp out with them.

I'm guessing it is out of the question for DH to take a days leave?

What a day today has been at school. 20 mins break is really no break.

  • I can tell I'm anxious. I just got a bit defensive about a post enquiring about how teaching hours stack up with other jobs. I worked in industry for a while and loved my 2 hour lunchbreaks and wandering round for a coffee whenever I felt like it. Teaching is just non-stop.
Plus I now have a load of working mother guilt as well. I wonder if I'm neglecting my kids because of my job... :(
Good idea about the other mam Bob - I might just ask her. It's 3 hours on the train Newcastle to Kings X so that, plus interview isn't too bad...
  • You could never be guilty of neglecting your kids Crazy Cat Lady - you work to support them etc... don't do that to yourself.

Go for the interview and see what that "gut feeling" says - congratulations and good luck x

Congratulations for getting the interview ccl, I hope your son's friends mum can help you out.
You sound like an amazing mum and the way you keep everything together is truly inspirational.
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
  • Thanks both of you. The working mother guilt hits me hard sometimes, and last night I was particularly tired and anxious. I have accepted the interview and decided to allow myself time to calm down and start planning properly for it. That will have to wait though as I have another incredibly busy day ahead, although I do have 1 free so I shouldn't have to worry about indigestion or eating my lunch while I'm on the toilet etc. I'm on a 5.30 finish tonight, and then have to take ds to a football training session at 6pm. His football team is finishing next month and we're desperately trying to find him a new team to go to. So last night he was training, then tonight he's training. I'm still on the sofa (for the 3rd night in a row last night) so not feeling that well rested. Roll on the weekend I say...
So if you don't see me later then you know why... I've died of exhaustion from trying to be the perfect working mother :p

  • Sorry CCL, just catching up. Fantastic news on the job front. Go you!

There will be plenty of clubs looking to take on players, particularly at this time of year as some players pull out because of poor weather. Also, big teams will take a chance on younger players as it's hard to tell how they'll turn out. I played for Rangers when I was 12 for 2 years until I tore my achilies tendon. They didn't see me play but my manager said good things about and the gave me a trial.

I think I've missed you mentioning it, but when is the interview?

Hope you manage a better sleep tonight.
  • You should go out like a light after such a busy day CCL - fingers crossed !
