Glad the sleepover went well for DS. And that you've had a nice day with your Mum. It's a real puzzler about the waking up at 3am. I wonder if some kind of sleep training is possible for adults with this issue?

  • Evening all. Check me out! All done and finished and ready to relax for the evening by 7pm. Long may this last. I've been non stop all day again but that's fine - it's been productive.
Got ds to sleep in my bed while I was watching Sherlock last night, and carried all 6 stone of him to his own bed in the hope he would stay there, only to do my usual wake up at 3.30am to find him back in bed next to me with poor dh on the sofa. I actually have a couple of sleep strategies that I learned in CBT but had forgotten about. One is that if I wake up during the night I'm not allowed to check the time - just have faith in my alarm waking me up for work. That worked for a while actually so might do that again tonight.
Got up early but very tired today - thankfully am still more than happy with work and the new Head so was ok about going in. He's put a couple of new behaviour policies in place today which are toughening things up a bit more and I love it. The more I see of him the more he does, the more I like him. He also said that from tomorrow he will be providing free tea and coffee to staff in the theatre before school as we don't get together much as a whole staff and thinks we need more 'togetherness'. I am actually going to make the effort to go in a little earlier tomorrow and get a free cuppa - maybe we'll get a free biscuit too :D I also sat down with him for a bit of a 1-1 chat this afternoon. He seems like a really nice guy with some good ideas and I'm pretty hopeful for the future of the school :D:D And I marked a set of books, because I felt like doing it...
So, got home, dd has a friend over so I fed them and ds and I just had some leftovers and did my daily jobs. I'm done and relaxing by 7pm which is practically unheard of in my book. Don't get me wrong, I still have plenty to do but I feel ok about it. I'm going to do some crochet in front of the telly and then go to bed at 9pm tonight.

Ccl, its lovely to hear you sounding/feeling content :)
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
  • I'd go with a new front door CCL. To me a gift is anything I want (I don't like that word particularly, but YKWIM) that I either can't afford or choose not to spend my money on. A front door would be amazing for me :-) Glad to hear the new head seems up to scratch, long may it continue.

I agree with not checking the time CCL. I've struggled with poor sleep for years and checking the time would make it worse, I'd just start thinking "I only have X hours before I have to get up etc" so now I don't let myself check. I still wake up about 3 or 4 times every night but I find it easier to go back to sleep with no concept of time. Hope it works for you.
  • CCL - Great to hear you're getting on with your boss. Must be a huge relief. And who would say no to a free tea or coffee, very MSE.

Hope you get a better sleep tonight.
  • Hi everyone :coffee: :hello:
Sorry I didn't get on last night. By the time I'd done all my daily jobs and taken ds to and from football practise, it was pretty much bedtime for us so online and crochet for me had to take a back seat for a while.
I'm not long home from work actually - about 20 minutes - I've put the bins out and dinner is in the oven but other than that all I've managed to do is get into my pj's ready for a slob on the sofa. It's really cold tonight and I've had to put the heating on.
Work continues to be fine - still more than impressed with the Head and I think I can already detect a change for the better. That might be wishful thinking but there's definitely a more positive atmosphere among the staff. And I've had two free cuppas so far this week :money: I was training after work tonight (physics for non physicists which was really good for me) so no time for marking, but I've done 2 sets of books so far this week which is practically unheard of for me. Plus my Year 11 reports are done. It almost feels too good to be true. We shall call this the honeymoon period.
I did training yesterday as well. I can't remember if I've mentioned on here, but I am a 'mental health champion' at work. Basically means I've volunteered to be a go-to person if staff or students need it. It was very interesting and I learned lots more than I already knew. I'm pleased we're making a big deal of mental health and emotional resilience - too many kids don't know how to bounce back...
I've also had a couple of ok nights sleep since I went into don't-check-the-time mode. Still waking up but managing to get back to sleep reasonably quickly again. I don't know why I feel as tired as I do today, because I'm sleeping better than ever. Hope I'm not getting the lurgy.

    Hi Cat

That's great that you got something from the training. It is good that society is trying harder to understand MH issues now.

  • CCL - Although you got 2 free cuppas......did you get free biscuits?????

Glad you've managed to catch up on well deserved sleep, long may it continue.
  • Free biscuits on a Friday Speky :D - Looking forward to work tomorrow (almost). Think it's too greedy to ask for bacon butties??
Not much to report. Slept well on sofa (ish). Went to work. Free cuppa. Busy all day teaching, and got next week planning done. DS broke his school bag so we went to get him a new one, and I treated us to dinner out (with dd). Not that mse, although it was with vouchers. And got home and both kids shared daily jobs with me so I had very little to do. Happy days.
Less happy news is dh's new working hours which mean that I'll see even less of him :( We barely see much of each other anyway (I'm usually up from about 6am till 9pm - he usually gets up lunchtime then stays up till 1-2am) I work 7.30am till about 5.30pm - he works 12-8. Now is going to be working 1230 till 930. When I will be in bed. Hmmm - we will just have to make the effort to work around it. He's not that happy either (rather than me being a moany cow on my own) but it is what it is and we need to be grateful he has a job etc. Ride with it and see what happens.
