Sky Cancellation

Options
Just wanted some advice regarding my Sky Account,

I have the full package which includes Sky Sports, Movies, HD Channels and Multi-Room etc.

Previously we have had the package at £88.00 that is a reasonable price.

It went up thought to £118.00 per month and with the previous price above was due to haggling with them that we would leave.

However I phoned today and the Customer Service Rep wouldn't budge on the price but then proceeded to offer it us at £105.00 which didn't really interest us, we wasn't put through to cancellations or anything to be offered anything better.

Just wanted to advice on the following:

1) What realistic price would I be looking at, ie: a better price than £88.00 per month

2) They have now cancelled the subscription which will cease in 30 days, what is the realistic chance of them contacting us again and offering something better as we aren't wanting to cancel.

We are in the same boat.

Our contract finishes on 28th July and online it says it will increase from £61 to £137, no way was I paying that....I spoke to them the other day and got them down to £88 but I am wondering if I cancel will they go lower? I need to make a decsion very soon.....
  • They are offering to do me a deal for £105.00 but they have now actually cancelled the subscription.

Not sure if it is worth another try but it is down on record we have tried to haggle so they may not offer us a better deal there and then.

Not sure if it is protocol for Sky to ring any customers cancelling to offer better deals as I have seen stories that is the case.

Now that you have cancelled they will probably phone you to try and keep you but nothing is guaranteed. Log into My Sky and they may already have offered you something.
  • As you have cancelled, log into the Sky service app on your phone or tablet. Usually an offer appears their as soon as you cancel and is often 50% off TV. Sometimes it starts at 35% and changes to 50% after a few days. Call the number given on the offer on the app. Don't try to do it through chat, they will just tell you it has expired and is a mistake.

Remember the above offer is just off TV, not multiscreen and not the separate HD subscription. To get a discount on them, log into MySky and review package. From there you can choose to cancel MS,HD,and broadband too. In each case, choose the link to cancel. It will ask if you are sure, say yes. It will ask for a reason, chose what you want, it will then give you an offer not to cancel. Either half price or something close to that.

Doing that you should be able to get it under £88 quickly and with no fuss.

I know people that work in the Sky retentions dept & this is how it works.
When you want to cancel your contract you'll be put through to a retentions advisor. They have a variety of offers available to retain you. But they only get two attempts to do this. Some offers eg. TV remain fixed. Every customer has 5, 15 or 25% off TV available to them & for 6, 9 or 12 months. Bear in mind a Sky contract is for 12 months. The best offer here is 25% off for 12 months, but an advisor earns very little bonus for this. The worst (5% off for 6 months) earns the advisor nearly £30. Advisors are trained to say there are only a few offers on your account, but that's nonsense. So, you should either cancel & see if you receive the 50% offer very soon on MySky etc. or say upfront you want 25% off TV for 1 year.
Also, offers are often available for line rental & broadband & an advisor can add all these together.
Lastly, Sky are very scared of losing customers to Virgin Media & BT. They have special offers prepared for this. If you quote a price for Virgin or BT & say you may be switching they will try to beat it.
So, prepare before your call, have some qoutes ready & you will easily outsmart the Sky advisor!
  • Just cancelled mine this morning as its going from £38 pm to £112 pm, i currently have all tv channels, box sets, sports, movies ect, broadband and phoneline and multiroon for £38 a month, got offered Tv only for £47 so i declined, advisor kept saying so do you really want me to press the cancellation button? Er YES Please!!! Then got passed to another department where i got the 3rd degree on why i was leaving and if i change my mind they can cancel my cancellation lol, Im moving soon so im not too fussed. Will take out sky again when an amazing deal is available...hint hint Martin!!! Lol Will be interesting to see what if anything i will be offered in the coming weeks as my cancellation doesnt take effect until the 4th September
If ive helped in any way please feel free to hit the "thanks" button!

You will more than likely receive an offer within that month. Keep checking MySky etc. If you don't you can call back & say you'll stay if they give you 25% off tv for the next year. But only do this in the last week of the cancellation month, as you should be offered 35% or 50% off before then.
