TalkTalk Customer Poll

I have gone live with talk talk very recently. Been with them now just under 6 months. I have been with four previous isps and several telephone companies over the years. Talk Talk is the only one that has done exactly what they said they would do on the tin. I was live at 12am on the promised connection date, with the phone switched a few hours later. Talk talk broadband is lightning fast. Much faster than my previous isps. I am now enjoying many free phone calls and do not have to pay that £11 odd extra for line rental to BT that I would have to do with other companies.
A superb web portal too that enables total control over calling features and passwords. Top marks. So far I have never been so happy as I have with this provider. I think they have finally got their act together in light of all the customer service complaints publicised, but of course I haven't had any reason whatsoever to call them yet. I signed up in the carphone warehouse to give the sales girl commission and myself a neck to strangle if my promised connection didn't happen, since one has to currently wait three weeks for a live date for BT to hand over.
Many people have connection issues and set up problems with broadband modems nowadays, especially wireless. In my experience it is normally the user that is at fault at initial log in stage, not getting two green lights before attemptig log in, or simply screwing passwords up between upper and lower case characters, or simply fogetting them altogether! This however does not account for any reason why other isps dont seem to have as many complaints. My previous isp to tis promised me connection within five days, but I had to call them by the 13th waiting day. I was then connected instant!
My advice is to give talk talk a serious go, because it is one of the few that has a 'get out' cooling period. Also sign up in store, remembering who gets the commission so you can personally give them hell if you get any kind of hell in it yourself!!!0 -
I Will never ever go back to these so called BB providers.
Did not reply to emails, complaint letters. Also charged me the privalage to telephone their customer support team by having to use an 0870. They were freindly enough but was about as much use as a ashtray on a motorbike.
I feel they cheated, robbed and shafted me.
I eventually went to PAYG Plusnet. Cheap but cheerful.

I read your report and if I had changed the name of the company in your report to 'Orange' it could have been a report from me! All of these same problems happened to me while trying to get connected to Orange Broadband. After a week of being forced to constantly make high priced calls to their customer/tech support (which was useless and full of lying morons), for a problem that was THEIR end, and costing me over £40 in calls, I screamed blue murder at them, totally stressed out and got a manager to cancel my order. I requested repayment for the wasted calls I was forced to make, but they wouldnt pay up. They also not only charged me for my usual dial up connection the folowing month, but also charged me for the broadband WHICH I NEVER GOT!! They wouldn't reimburse me the full amount for that overcharge either.
I know this forum is about Talk Talk but I just had to write to warn people DO NOT GO WITH ORANGE BROADBAND!!! You will find ALL the worst problems ( and more!) that people are having with Talk Talk, duplicated, with Orange! They (Orange) are a nightmare company who lie and are rude to, and care not a jot for, their customers! I generally think that if any company has a premium rate Customer/tech support number, you should stay well clear....afterall, if any company value your custom and VALUE you as a customer, why would they provide a PREMIUM RATE CUSTOMER/TECH SUPPORT NUMBER for you to use should you need help? Think about that.....and be very wary.....
Hope this helps people not make another wrong steer if feeling the need to leave Talk Talk!:hello:

Initial startup problems with date of connection and then getting broadband up and running.
Overseas call centre response APPALLING--lots of Indians and no chiefs to make decisions, lots of promises but no delivery, and often it takes hours to get through, and then your call gets cut off if you do finally talk to ''an advisor''
Christmas 2006-no broadband OR telephone connection AT ALL from Nov 2006 till Feb 2007!!
Not only that, they had me waiting in for days on end promising they would be getting an engineer to connect me---they never did, and the whole process of phoning to complain and wait in again was restarted---this happened six or more times for about six whole weeks til I gave up in frustration. Didn't get connected until I finally sent letters of complaint to ofcom---still waiting for promised compensation........
Currently annoyed about ridiculous american brawl used for 1471 service----oh to live in England.............................................can't understand a word 1471 is saying.........
Still waiting for them to remove billing for paper bills, cancelled these last year............................
BUT the price is cheap, the goods work 75% of the time, and the alternatives are even worse and twice the price with same incompetent management0 -
Help, I'm in a bit of a dilemma.
I currently have:
Landline rental BT - approx £11 pm
Talk Talk calls - average £6 pm
Broadband - NTL now Virgin. Should be £18 pm - but have never had to pay that. I always complain about service  and have only paid half price for the last three years.
Yesterday, received statement from Virgin BB for £18. Rang the 0845 No. got through to India. Eventually was connected to Virgin in UK - customer services (gave me freephone direct no. 0800 052 9403). I was offered BB for £10 pm for the next 12 months. The bloke I spoke to said no one should ever pay the full price for BB - maybe he was into MSE!
But, Talk Talk rang me last night, offered me 30 day free trial for Talk 2 International - line rental, free calls evenings and weekends, and BB for £16.39.
Sounds too good to be true - what do you think?:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing0 -

You end to find the agents go of the information which is placed in front of them or they learnt in training, 95% it isnt them actually lying.0 -

Im afraid that in my case it WAS lying though, as the Manager I later spoke to confirmed....and it was done to fob me off to someone else....the guy just didn't want to know! ...But ended up in hot water as a result as the manager was furious!......
Just goes to show that there ARE some in callcentres around the world with little or no concience and just in it for an easily 'earned' paypacket! Glad its all worked for you though. Its just a shame though that you seem to be one of the minority rather than the majority. But pleased for you.:hello:

Ordered 1st August, landline switched within 10 days. No problems. BB router arrived but had to chase up for connection date. (18th Aug). Installed by my own geek nephew and have had no problems so far, customer services were helpful when contacted. Couldn't beleive how easy it was. Am i just lucky or is it too early to judge?
I had a similar experience. Was given a date to go "live", went "live" on date, modem arrived 1 day after "live", and I followed the straightforward install instructions and it all worked fine. In fact it was a little unsettling as I had braced myself mentally for a load of hassle which didn't materialise.
The online billing setup didn't work, but I've got 3 months to sort that out, so all in all at this very early stage, I'm quite content.
HOWEVER.... I did take the precaution of taking my PC round to a friends house before, and plugging it into his broadband connection (through the Lan connector on the back) to make sure my PC was up to date with all the windows updates and security plug-ins. He warned me if I hadn't done that, I could have spent quite a while waiting for windows updates to be downloaded and installed during the TalkTalk set-up process.0
