TalkTalk Customer Poll

  • Moved house and thought would go with them in Jan.

Errors made on transfer of phone line to them which took weeks and hours on the phone to resolve. The line was active but my account was not. Every time I called they said they could see the error and had fixed it but it took 24-26 hours for it to com into force. A week later no change.

I was without broadband for over 4 MONTHS and no active account for 2 months. The indian call centre was rubbish and although helpful not able to understand the issue or resolve it. The only time anything was done was when I called the account cancellation department.

Now I am up and running it works fine and apart from a few ongoing niggles with their billing am happy.

I would never recommend them, nor go with them again as they are incompetent to deal with anything that does not work smoothly.

We joined within a week of it launching. We had a small problem getting our broadband cause someone between BT and TalkTalk messed something up with our line for broadband but that was resolved relatively quickly. We sometimes have broadband connection problems which I think is due to volume of users.

Was quite happy with them until we had nearly 48 hours without a phone line which apparently affected lots of people where I live. I was livid about that.

Having said that though, I'm going to stick with them when my 18 months are up because they're so cheap and the problems aren't frequent enough for it to be worth my while changing.

Talk talk's engineer routed my phone line through their equipment in my local BT exchange

This work is completed by BTOpenreach as well as any maintenance or issues such as crossed lines which require rejumpering. If BT tell TalkTalk that they have completed this work they can only go off what has been told to them.
  • Made the mistake of switching, then going to Italy for 3 weeks, came back to no phone,or BB,been off for all that time. Called call center at 9.30 am,all on and working by 10.15am,and i use vista!!
However,my girlfriend who lives 100 yds away, still does not have a BB conection after 4 weeks (phone ok) tested laptop here, all ok, contacted indian call center,no help at all, costs 10p a minute too!! Still trying to resolve, wont believe it's a problem with the line, despite pc working here!
Asked for refund of bill for time phone/bb not going, she got £5,me promised refund but nothing!! But speed is faster than pipex, who can't do vista modems...hence switch, and can call sister in Brisbane for free....so deal good.:D
  • I can use my work vpn on TT - i do not use the talk talk router though
  • Initially problems but then everything smooth. Have not had to talk to customer service for months since didn't need to.
  • Talktalk are your worst nightmare if you get a problem. Have had a 'catalogue' of issues with them. e.g. Broadband goes down completely - phone TT broadband - told to phone TT Landline as its their line - phoned them - you've guessed, phone Broadband. Told if engineers call & can't find a fault I will be billed. How much? Don't know? etc, etc, etc, etc, etc........ . . . .
  • P.S. Have had MSE e-mail updates for quite a while but seeing this poll spurred me to join forum today & post.

    DON'T USE TALKTALK FOR ANYTHING!
  • I put off moving to talk talk because it heard there are so many problems but two friends on the same exchange as me have used it for a few months with no problems so I have moved over. The actual change was very simple, I used my existing router and just changed the log in details and it worked. Only been with them about a month but has been fine so far. Their correspondence about the change over was not very good, had a letter saying the change would be delayed and then about a week later giving the date of the change over as the following day. I also work on the bases that if I don't need to contact them then I should be OK anyway.
  • :j I joined talktalk 18 months ago because it was a good deal. I was told I could get 4 meg but never got more than 1.7 meg. I too had problems with error code 0961 wrong username and password, next time I logged on it was fine. I got used to putting up with this, however last month I had so much trouble I decided to write to Charles Blunstone direct via e-mail. The next day an ENGLISH man phoned from Opal telling me he had been assigned to sort my problem out, The issues have mostly been dealt with, I now have 2.4 meg, which is good enough for me as long as I don't keep getting "outages".
I too told talktalk that the indian call centres were as much use as a chocolate fireguard, Hopefully I will get things sorted and I will stick with talktalk as long as they keep up their end of things. Will keep you informed of progress:j Peter.
