TalkTalk Customer Poll

  • Tried initially to get broadband as an existing TalkTalk telephone customer but after confirming it would be done in 15 days it all went quiet. After 30 days spoke to someone in India who said they could not trace my telephone number. Not bad as they were billing me every month! Gave up but retried two months later. After waiting seven months I gave up, cancelled the broadband order and transferred phone line back to BT. Ended up being charged twice for rental by TalkTalk, once in response to coercion from debt collector even though we said we could prove we had paid. Seven months and twelve letters later (including copy of cheque cashed by TalkTalk and bank statement) still no refund. They lie, they cheat, they steal and customer service is an alien concept. Worst experience of customer disservice ever (so far!).
  • Our experience has been as been unimaginably bad; suffice to say, 2 years of perfectly acceptable service and connection obliterated by the simple business of moving house in November 2006 but keeping our phone number. We have only finally managed to extricate ourselves from their clutches by sending a strongly worded email to the CEO and two other senior executives. A random search produced many websites united in their hatred of Carphone Warehouse/Talk Talk. If anyone needs tips on how to deal with difficulties, or a rant about their service, try www.talktalkhell.wordpress.com
    When in doubt, make soup.

Hi Markymark yes we even tried removing all the phones except for 1 using the main socket and turned off the net but still had problems.

I don't totally understand the LLU thing but we were with Talk Talk for the phone only and had no problems, so I can't see why we have any now?

We can phone out most of the time but incoming calls can hear us but we can't hear them. very strange.......
  • I had huge problems with talk talk when their payments system messed up. Getting a logical answer was very hard to do.
Yes, it is cheap, the call time is good, and if you never encounter any problems then it will be a good deal for you - BUT be warned, if you need assistance, you are going to find you hit a brick wall. The staff try to help, but may well drive you to distraction along the way!

Completely agree with Tine had similar problems myself including the person on the other end going silent every time they stopped talking which always left me wondering if we had been cut off. Help desk was so NOT and again could not understand me was sent about 5 texts a day saying problem had been resolved and to text if it was not so spent a fortune on that. Even had BT engineers put in a new phone line but that didnt work. Ok now but still get the silence refuse to complain any more as totally fed up and dont want the problem to get worse. Would not recommend to anyone!!!
  • I signed up for Talk 3 international in July 2006, as I was already a customer I only needed my line and broadband switching over to them. I received my modem and was given a go live date of sept 2006. I rang them with a MAC code, which is only valid for 30 days, and was told that everything would be ok. In December 2006 I had to ring them because they still hadn't switched us over and after repeating several times to a foreign person at their call centre, I was told there was a fault on the line and it would take 2 weeks for it to be cleared. In June 2007 my line gets switched over to TalkTalk from BT without any notification and waiting nearly 12 months for them to do this. At present I still don't have the broadband and when I rang BT to go back to them coz I was sick of waiting for TalkTalk I was told it would cost me £124.99 because TalkTalk had done something to the line at the exchange (I think) so they would have to send an engineer!! What a nightmare, I wish I never changed to TalkTalk. As soon as my 18m contract is up I will definately be going somewhere else!
  • Broadband - what Broadband. I have never been able to use it since day 1. After trying to access the password they had allocated me I was informed this was invald. Spent what seemed like a life time talking to India - trying to say I was keying in the password wrong. They allocated me a new one - did that one work? No. I was then transferred to the Technical team in....South Africa. Could they help - No. Gave up in then end and never tried again since. Cant wait for the contract to end!
  • I have had no real problems but pre-empting my 18 months at Talk Talk (and the possibility of going onto Virgin (Sky Sports) or Sky I rang to confirm my end date and was told that my line had been upgraded and my contract had been restarted - Has anybody else heard of this and can they tell em if it is right!!!!!

    Thanks in advance

I had been dithering over which Broadband to change to, since the deal we had was not good, when my husband decided all of a sudden to change over to TT (I still had reservations). There were a few problems at the beginning and we have been without telephone line or without broadband on occasions. The excuse was that "due to the storms, the center such and such was down and technicians were working on it". There was a period during which, most evenings, I would be left without broadband, so I gather they could not cope with the demand. I complained, they admitted this and I threatened to report them to the OFT for keep on trying to attract customers (I have an annoying banner on top of my yahoo mail which jumps every time I try to open a message!) without having the resources to cope with the demand. I do not know if that worked or they did improve something, but I have had few problems since. I gather their service varies a lot depending on where you live. I do not understand much how it works, but probably not all their centers cope in the same way.
