TalkTalk Customer Poll

  • Signed up on 5th August for the free broadband and calls package (£16.89), all up and running by 21st August as promised. Great Comms along the way as well.

Only issue i had to contact them about is not recieving the promised £10 credit on first bill. Not heard anything yet.

My only big problem has been with BT, as we have just moved into our first house we had to get a new number. When i rung to get a number i asked just to be given a new number on the lowest cost package as i would be looking at other suppliers, this was Option 1 (£10.50 a month) and there was no mention of a 12 month contract. Now i have just received my final bill from BT and there is obviously a 12 month contract as they are charging me service charges for the remainder of a contract i never knew i had signed up to. Seems unfair that you have to sign up to their service for 12 months if you want a phone line!

I have tried ringing BT but couldn't wait on the line for ages so have contacted them via their website, i will let you know what happens.

TalkTalk is great value and not had any problems with set-up or service so far.

    Thanks
    Ste
  • I signed up with Talktalk soon after the free broadband became available. The phone was switched very quickly. It took about 9 months and 3 MAC codes to switch the broadband. They'd ask me for the code from my previous provider and then let it expire so i had to go back to them for a new one. I wasn't too annoyed as i bet at that time there was a huge number of people signing up.
Never had any connection problems. They did try to charge me £70 for switching packages, as if i'd cancelled altogether and this caused the Direct debit to fail as there wasn't enough money in my account. I phoned to see what had happened and got charged the £70 plus £5 for the DD not working and there was no arguing with the india woman on the other end of the phone. I then had the bank trying to charge me £35 for the DD not working. I emailed and actually got a very helpful English lady who credited my account with the £75 and offered to refund the bank charge as well as it was their mistake.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with them and don't have any plans to leave unless i find something even cheaper.
  • Tried to claim under their so called £1000 guarantee. Even though phone bills cheaper with BT they wriggled out of paying due to small print and legal gobbledygook. When working it's fine but max speed onlt 2Mb, usually considerably less. Nothing like the 8Gb trumpeted over the media. Broadband prone to dropping connection, or not been accessible. Very poor on the whole. I am thinking of finding another provider after contract expires.

  • I joined TalkTalk when they first offered it to the market and just before their big advertising campaign. It was an absolute nightmare. I've lost count of the times I called them, and have to admit they even reduced me to tears on a couple of occasions with the sheer frustration of holding on for ages (70 mins was the worst) and then being cut off instantly or speaking to people who didn't understand what I was saying and who were obviously just reading from a script.

However, for the past 9 months or so things have been great. On the rare occasion I have a problem they've answered instantly and are really helpful. It's great that I can call family in the States just because I can! I'd definitely recommend them to anyone now.;)
  • Never had an issue with Talk Talk - took a long time initially because I was one of the first customers to take them up on the offer but 18 months has flown by and I will remain with them as long as they keep their prices down!!

    Brill!!

  • Joined talk talk last november still no sign of ever being connected to bb constant calls to India, South Africa, and the north east leaving now to join Tiscali very similar offer:confused:
  • Glad to see see that the the top answer to the poll is that you're happy overall, I'm working for the Carphone Warehouse at the moment so I have to deal with TalkTalk issues quite often!

The Indian call centres are necessary it seems, whether you agree with them or not! Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to offer broadband for free. At the end of the day, the staff there are paid a very decent wage for the part of the world they're in, so I'm not too worried about that side of things. With regards to understanding them, it can be difficult at times, but I've had no problems asking the staff there to speak a bit more slowly and clearly so I can understand them, and they seem perfectly happy to do so.

With regards to technical issues, unfortunately we do need to check things at your end before we can go any further checking our end. In short, we have to start from the beginning and work through to the end! We had a customer in almost every day for two weeks, who blamed the exchange, the phone lines, the service, the company, and almost anything else he could get away with, before fairly sheepishly admitting that he forgot to install the CD that comes with the modem! I'm not really judging though, it can happen to the best of us!

If anybody does have problems with it, you can always come in to a Carphone Warehouse store and talk to us about it, overall we're a friendly bunch and will do what we can!

By the way, this isn't me taking the company line and I'm not being told to post here or anything, this is just my personal opinion on the situation. Just thought you might like to know what I think about it, working on the other side of the counter and all!
  • Tried oh so very hard to get Talktalk to reply to queries regarding my set-up. I once spent an hour waiting for someone to answer my call. Was totally unhappy with their refusal to answer my queries, so cancelled the contract - they were failing to keep THEIR side of the deal. Customer service my a**e. They then ignored all requests to remove their marker from my line which was preventing any other ISP from setting up.

After 5 months of this I changed my number. It cost nothing since BT thought I was getting nuisance phone calls. Within a matter of days, I'd signed up with and was online with BT Broadband.

Talktalk? Bunch of w*****s. (If only there were a smiley for this....)
  • fine initially, then started disconnecting all the time which became so bad that it was unuseable for ages. customer support absoloutely appalling - different answer every call, plus spent hours on phone with them. eventually got probs fixed by my it geek friend not talk talk. still have intermittent probs.
  • The poll may show one thing, Decemoto, but these posts show severe levels of dissatisfaction!!!
    "Nightmare!"
    "Ordeal"
    "Soooooo bad!"
    "Useless"
    "Stay away!"
    "Dodo"

And you think this is satisfaction?? Ah, you work for the company, of course.

    None so blind...
