Did they just send you the exemption certificate automatically or did you have to ask?

I haven't had one but surely it is redundant anyway because you can just use a birth certificate?

Just arrived a few weeks after I claimed my SP online. I didn't request it. I guess a birth certificate would have been good enough for payroll dept and if the exemption certificate didn't arrive I wouldn't even have known one existed!

A friend of mine reached 65 last year and he never got one.

    Hope that helps fj

Okay everyone, I called the claim line on the 0800 number that you get on the confirmation document after CLAIMING online. As everyone knows you MUST claim your State Pension. It doesn't just arrive automatically in your bank account.

So I rang the number, spoke to a nice and very helpful lady, who confirmed my id, then found my claim, checked my NI contributions were up to date, and then confirmed my pay day was a Monday, and the weekly amount was £152.84. The first payment is on 8th August, and every four weeks after that.

She finished by saying I will get written confirmation, the Entitlement Notice, and the tax office will be sent details to adjust my tax code because I work part time. No more NI to pay from the day I turn 65. So as that happens midway through my work month I only pay a pro-rata amount for July.

The reason I hadn't heard from them was just the enormous amount of claims that have gone in online waiting to be processed. Obviously speaking to them moves you to the top of the list and they process it there and then.

    Cheers fj

Good luck with that. I have official paperwork here stating that the first part-payment will be paid into the bank account on July 4th. It still has not arrived by today July 12th.

I phoned up, had to wait over eight minutes listening to Vivaldi's Four Seasons, got a reasonable woman who said she could see "nothing on the file to account for that" and gave me another number to phone. The second number put me on hold for so long that I had to give up.

Was the "official paperwork" a "First Payment Advice" (BR2198)? These are issued at the same time as the payment is generated so should be "right".

If it is an "Entitlement Notice" (BR2121) then I believe the date that gives is the date of the first payday. If you are paid four weekly you only get paid every fourth payday so you only have a 1 in 4 chance of actually being paid then.

    Not very clever wording!

It is an eight-page letter, headed:

    About your State Pension
Award Notice and Statement of Details

    dated 23 June 2016

    It says:
    Your claim for State Pension.
You made an online claim for State Pension.

The decision about your State Pension.
Your are entitled to a State Pension of xxx.xx a week, payable from 24 June 2016.
......... Your first payment is for the total sum of .............. ............. this will be paid on 04 July 2016.
Your second payment is for the total sum of .............. This will be paid on 01 August 2016.

(The first payment - not arrived - is a part-payment from 24 June to 4 July. The second payment is the actual 4-week sum, the first of all pension payments thenceforth.)

The first payment has not arrived over a week later. Fortunately we don't actually NEED this money right now, but it would be less than funny if someone was waiting for it to pay a Utility bill, for instance.

That is odd. The ANSOD would look as though the payment will definitely be on 4th July as you say. If the payment had actually been made you would have received a First Payment Advice as I said above.

Someone must have stopped it before 4th July - call you can do is ring them up again.

Maybe they have made a mistake with your account number and/or sort code. Have you checked what they used to make the payment?

The bank account details are on the ANSOD, aren't they?

If the bank details were wrong the First Payment Advice would still be produced.

That assumes they have made a payment.........

The bank account details are on my printout of the request/application/claim for pension. The account details on that print out are correct - they only show the sort code and last four digits of the account number, which is the correct procedure.

They do not show bank account details on the subsequent 8-page letter, which is also correct: they tell you when applying, that they will not quote them back to you in any letter, which is a very sensible safety procedure.

I think (ginfers crossed) that they've made a mistake. Didn't pay when they said they would.

However, this is already manifested in PAYE code which has been changed three times this tax year already; the latest one is a K-code which incorporates the State Pension, which would be correct if they had started paying it!

Well you wouldn't know would you!

Let us all know what happens please.
