Managed to get car through MOT (repaired in garage with partly missing roof so plenty of aircon, & internal snow. Got a text saying snow falling & settling at home so hurtled off into the night will-pay-by-bank-transfer-blessings-on-you & found that yes while parts of the mway were down to one lane as cars just didn't fancy exclusive use of a lane with 6cm of snow blown onto it, actually Not That Bad but I was feeling very cold & mentally revising hypothermia. (Pea & Ham soup followed by haggis & mash - thoroughly effective but not at all vegetarian.)
Somewhat unconvinced we will be visiting mother in law tomorrow, but vehicle now lawfully capable. Even have a length of rope in boot but the offspring & husband are very fond of MIL so I think our attendance will be in the hands of the weather gods.0 -
Make sure you take enough Emergency Blankets to go round.0

Looking out of my front window, I reckon the snow will be falling all night, and possibly into tomorrow too.0

Woke up to about 3 inches and another heavy shower incoming. Poor wee birds dono what's hit them - last few days they've been chasing girls around the garden with twigs in their beaks - now they're buried in snow again!0

It's going to throw a lot of nature out of sync for a while. It's upset the rootling and foraging habits of the rare gardening geeus queueus, f'ristance.
We had an incredibly light dusting of powdery snow just befor 10 pm last night and there is no sign of any more coming down since - I can see 50% of the grass outside and there is nothing settled on the tarmac. Baltic, tho, and sky looks like it could decide to drop some more later, more is forecast, with a temp range of -3 to +1.
Hope everyone is warm and well today.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Deep snow here and it's still coming down. Only farm vehicles moving.
I had to take the dog out this morning and it's difficult seeing against the driving snow - especially with a poorly eye. DIY goggles to the rescue! Not as 100% as proper snow goggles but still a lot better - and Pineapple doesn't care if she looks like a lemon.:rotfl:0 -
We’re warm and well. Got about 2 inches of snow so far and it’s still coming down thickly.
Unfortunately we are half way through having our bathroom ripped out and replaced by a shower room ( MrC hasn’t been able to cope with the bath in and outs for a while now) and our lovely builder (close friend also which is why we have someone who isn’t local - well, that and the horrible, horrible messes local builders have left us in in the past) can’t get over from Leeds to finish it until possibly Wednesday. So we have a part filled skip now filling up with snow, a functioning loo (thank the god of builders) and no shower or bath.
Weird though how people react when you tell them you have no shower or bath. You’d think you’d just told them you were living in filth and squalor akin to that in Victorian slums. When did bathrooms stop being luxuries and become necessities?? Thank goodness we were both brought up to know the difference between a temporary nuisance and a major catastrophe - apologies if I sound smug, I’m just concerned about modern priorities really.0 -
Just a few last minute warmth precautions from me today. Flasks filled with boiling water, house heat has been boosted and is now off, tank is hot as it is central in the house and a heat store. Don`t be deceived by snow melting on tarmac. The mass of tarmac/concrete holds warmth and the snow is sucking the warmth out. Temperatures will fall again, air temp here is just below zero, expect ice rinks later0

Six days a week I have a stripwash with a basin of hot water and on the seventh day I ritually bathe, including wallowing in Epsom salts and whatever frothy thingummy I have been gifted with most recently. I most certainly do not smell.
I spent my earliest years in a cottage whose plumbing was limited to one cold tap and a 'copper' in the kitchen with an outside lavvy and all the trimmings. I try not to laugh like a drain when some younger person is carrying on like it's the end of the world because their shower won't be repaired for two whole days and they're being condemned to filthiness.
Goodness gracious me, have these wee lovies never gone camping?!
I have been ambling around the city with my newspaper delivery trolley. You'll surely have seen these generic items, strong tubular steel construction (painted blue), two big rubber wheels, fluorescent PVC cloth bag.
Mine is covertly pimped with a plywood platform which sits under the bag and gives extra stability to the load. Only one person of my acquaintance has been observant enough to notice the wooden bit.
This trolley is very strong and more than able to handle heavy loads. Today, we toddled off to the tip over a mile away to offload a dead microwave, then swung a loop and went to le supermarche before coming home. I can report that it is a tad bracing out.:rotfl:
Said trolley has several advantages; they're generic, so attract little or no attention, very strong (could handle water carriers in a stand-tap situation), cheap enough to buy 2nd hand, mine was £5 at a bootsale, and they expand your ability to live car-free.
Ideally, I would like to expand my trolley-options by adding a 4-wheeler to the 'fleet' - something like the classic American kids' toy wagon called a Radio Flyer. Cannot be too big as issues regarding storage. I'm keeping my eyes open and sacrificing regularly to the Goddes of Secondhandiness for their blessings on my Quest.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
