We had about 4" overnight but it's melting fast. DD1 had to drive back solo from a friend's wedding upcountry; she's only been driving for a couple of months so was a bit anxious, but the guests agreed to travel back in convoy & she's back safe & sound, despite having had to drive on a motorway for the first time. I gather there's more of the white stuff expected tonight, but it's not freezing here, and the wind, though keen, isn't biting.

I'm delighted to report that our fuel bills for this winter are significantly lower than last year, despite having an extra body in the house; basically the woodpile has paid for itself twice over as the heating doesn't usually come on when the stove's lit. The living room was still cosy this morning; the cats were draped happily over the sofas rather than haunting the kitchen wailing for their breakfast. I invested in a sample pack of those bark briquettes, and they've been great; we put one on as the fire died down to embers at about 10pm yesterday evening, and it was still smouldering enough this morning to light some dry twigs laid straight onto it.

However, one glance at the roof tells me we should do something about loft insulation...

:DBB must be under the weather or he'd've had fun with that.

I'm too busy with the Colonoscopy jokes. :)

BB pauses to consider another Colonoscopy joke, then decides against it. :)

The wind really is biting here. The thermometer says 4c, but it feels far colder in the wind.

In addition to the Central Heating, I've got a 2000w convector heater going in the living room.

Husband has had a few of those BB and I live in fear and dread of ever needing one, I really think I'd just refuse it. Awful thing to go through, you stay warm and cosy.
  • We've just arrived home having driven here to Hampshire from the 'Shires. We had 10cms minimum of snow overnight and the best snowball fight I've had in years with DD1, James and his two lads this morning. We originally set out to make a snowman but the snow was so dry that it didn't stick together at all well, however if you squeezed it together hard enough it made cracking good snowballs, more fun than is legal I feel!!! The roads had all been salted and gritted and were clear and running fast all the way home. Big excitement was following a TESLA Model B down the last stretch of motorway, down the roads towards the village and only having it turn off towards the river and the boatyards about a mile from home, beautiful cars and very stylish.

BOB sad to hear that Buggalugs is missing, DD2s cat was missing for months a couple of years ago, he is very social and a complete socialite, people and other folks homes are his thing but he came home eventually after the lady who had been feeding him for that time phoned the vet to see if he had a home and the vet who had DDs address rang her to tell her, nearly lost him but now Stanley sticks close to home.
  • No more sticking snow atm.

Just a bit blowing in the wind.

Unpleasant as it was, it was bearable.

Also, being you have a husband, who presumably could take care of you for the 24 hours after the procedure, means you would be able to have the sedation.

+1 for the experience, whilst rarely amusing, can be downright manageable.
Plus, they never send you off for the training of staff, they ask you to go for the knowledge/reassurance it will bring your medic. So you do your prep (tell you, meal planning takes on a whole new edge), take the drugs, drink the gallons of fluid and fart like a troopers horse afterwards, but it's done with.

And, as Bob rightly says, there is always the option of absolute sedation if you have additional backup. Which I sort of did, but was too curious by the pink pipework on the monitor. The staff were absolutely wonderful - a hand to hold if that helped, offering to take photos of the monitor to squick out colleagues if I so wished - I have rarely been so utterly enchanted by the medical profession.

If life goes sideways on you mar, and you really want to say no to a colonoscopy, pm me & I'll send a file I wrote myself in case it happened again.
  • Now feeling a little tender, on the side where the polyp was removed.

Oh dear Bob, I can't help thinking of

    We praise the colorectal surgeon
    Misunderstood and much maligned,
Slaving away in the heart of darkness,
Working where the sun don't shine.

You know that one don't you? If not Google it. It's hilarious.
Well, it is if you don't have dealings with one.
I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.
