I don't give birthday (or XMAS) presents. If I want to give someone something I do so at any time, rather than feeling that I have to or am expected to for a certain occasion. I would rather somebody spent £5 on giving me something that they wanted to than spend £20 because they felt that they had to .......0

If my family were coming to visit me 6/7 weeks after my birthday I would find it ridiculous that they spend a fortune on posting my gifts just so I can have them on the actual day.
I recently posted 2 small presents and it cost me £15, if there's lots of presents coming it could cost way more than this plus there's the problem that things can get lost or damaged in the mail.Torry_Quine wrote: »No I wouldn't. If not seeing someone beforehand then I would buy something suite for posting.
But I'd rather someone bought something that they really thought I'd like, not just something that was practical because it could be posted0 -

Was the person who will be getting the gift happy with the arrangement (before you gave them your opinion)?
Just curious.
No need to start arguments. The world will still keep turning, regardless of when someone gets their birthday gift!
I was just curious as to what others think, hence the thread.
ETA Sorry, I should answer your question, no they were a bit miffed about it at the time and I agreed with them.0 -

Oops. I didn't mean to suggest you'd buy any old rubbish just cos it's postable!
It's just recently it was my nephew's birthday and I knew just what I wanted to get, there would be other things he'd have liked but they just weren't as good. But it meant he got the gift a month late. I did feel bad but more thought and time went into that gift than my other nieces and nephews presents and it didn't seem to bother him. I think he was probably pleased to get a present later and he wouldn't have noticed one less present on the actual day when he had about 50 presents to open.0 -
