Didn't get my NSD as I forgot the Avon delivery was coming - all good stuff though, stocked up on Skin So Soft to avoid mozzies when we're on holiday next month and am trying the hair dye because it's on offer for £3 - if it's good it'll be a saving on the Nutrisse that I usually get. So when I went to Tesco for the final pack of Budweiser I allowed myself to look at the YS stuff and got a sad looking basil to plant out, two sharon fruit, a head of celery and two peppers for 62p!

Realised I made a mistake this morning and counted yesterday twice so I'm still on 3 NSDs.

Came home to a power cut the one night I wanted to watch the footie :eek:

I have ended up eating crisps for tea after eating healthily all day as I couldn't cook the chicken I had defrosted. I have begun to change my diet and can already feel the difference.

DS and I took the dog out for a walk while DH got a ridiculous quote for some tree trimming which we won't be going ahead with. DH got the impression he was trying his luck.

Not a NSD as had to pay the window cleaner. I did use my lunch allowance to buy some fruit, peppers and almond milk as I had taken my own to eat in the car before appointments.

We received a cheque today refunding us the last mortgage payment on our old mortgage which I hadn't expected so that will be added to the emergency savings pot. :D

fmess i have to stay away from free food as it is usually cake etc in our coffee room :)

It's Wednesday and our cupboards, fridge and freezer still look full. Must have done the last big shop better. Will do proper stock take on Friday and meal plan. Hopefully only need fresh fruit and veg on Sat.

Have a phone contract for the first time in ages and my texts to Germany are not included but cost extra. Am sure it wasnt like that in my last contract years ago. Need to investigate.

Off to bed to do my third headspace mindfulness session

A slow day today but no money spent. Bought panel pins (the ones in the old boards are completely rusted) and a small lock for the bathroom (DS3's request 'for guests') from the 'works' budget but taken from 'extras'. Bought ibruprofen as getting low and it was 25p a pack (£1 shop is 3 for a £).

Joiner has fitted two doors - the supplier said they had them in stock but when he went they only had 2, he's ordered the other three. They aren't sure they will get them, they wanted him to travel to their other shop - he's getting his own back by getting free breakfasts from them.

Space in my room has been used for cutting doors so there is even more stuff on my bed (need to do something soon because I can't lie down on the remaining space) so have worked round that and done little jobs.

I have washed clothes and dried them outside, harvested the last of the lavender (last bunch was suspended inside a bag in the wardrobe) and taken all the rusty nails out of the old boards. Tried to saw an extra piece to use as backing but think it is too thick. I have a piece of board which might do but it will need to be cut with the jigsaw and did not feel awake enough to be messing with the jigsaw.

I did briefly contemplate buying one of those cheap canvas over a wooden frame wardrobes as we have noticed another couple of snags. Will see if I can fix them tomorrow - wardrobe needs to go back on the floor on it's front. If they can't be fixed I will buy something as I don't think it's worth spending a third day trying to make it work.

Have set the alarm for 7 am tomorrow and have a list of jobs to do whilst waiting for laminate and for the joiner to come (he will be early if the doors have arrived, if they haven't he is going to a medicine review appointment before going to the further shop to get them).

Today I am grateful for my bed (needed a nap this pm), for DS3 getting along with the joiner (swapping problems caused by the tax office and even helping hold doors in place), salad from the fridge and leftovers from the freezer (added wrinkly veg).

Bob I don't think a personal trainer would help. There are various free local authority schemes which I have used before.

The Health Trainers measure you, ask questions and advise on diet but also tell you about local exercise classes. You see them weekly for about 4 weeks, then monthly and then there is a 3 month, 6 month and annual review. They are non-judgemental, just gently ask what's going wrong and give advice on how to improve. They can also talk through other problems - I saw one HT twice, very successfully the first time, the second time she thought I had so many other things going on (taking on other people's problems as well as my own) that I would continue to struggle unless I could sort some of the other issues first. The third time I had a new trainer and ended up having the hip op and on crutches in the middle.

I suppose (imagine) a personal trainer is more judgemental, making you do things and I am not sure that would be helpful. I might just retreat into my shell.

The Lose Weight Feel Great scheme has several elements. If your bmi is over a certain level you are entitled to 12 weeks free at Slimmers world with a free exercise class afterwards. I have done this twice, love the exercise class, hate the SW plan (diet conflicts with my diabetes and has too many unhealthy things - big reliance on artificial sweeteners which are bad news long-term). I prefer the BHF healthy plate approach

Done this twice and dropped the SW after the 12 weeks (most people drop the exercise class after the 12 weeks). The local authority employs the exercise leaders and they are quite happy to let you keep going

The first time I stopped because I missed several weeks as I injured my ankle (an old injury that I have problems with). The second time (having foolishly been talked into trying lunges) I was ordered to rest in bed for 3 weeks (this was followed by weeks of physio and then the diagnosis which led to my hip op).

The thing is I know what I should and shouldn't be eating. Experience has shown that I need to cut out the bad things altogether (may have the odd lapse but must not bring cakes, biscuits, sweets, high fat cheese etc (block cheese will be cut up and used in cooking not nibbled away) into the house.

Exercise is still problematical. I only achieved moving side to side (warm up exercise) very recently. Anything on the floor is difficult although I did spend some time on the floor doing the wardrobe. In an exercise class the time I spend getting down to the floor (and up again) far outweighs the time I can spend on the floor so yoga or pilates (both of which I have enjoyed in the past) are out.

I like Tai Chi but balance was an issue before my op and thinking through the forms I can see several places where I would grind to a halt. There are chair based classes at several of the old folks homes but that would really be throwing in the towel.

I think the best thing I can do is to keep walking. Walk as far as I can, as long as I can, try every day, add new targets (slopes/ stairs). As for my diet, decide to put long term gain ahead of short term pleasure and keep at it. I do like raw veg but they don't compete with chocolate.

Honestly never heard that term. I know Americans use Pot Luck sometimes in that context.

    Hello All

Its going to be a loooooong day. Baby wanting to feed off and on from 4 then DS up for the day by 5. He finished school yesterday so is slightly overexcited about the summer holidays as they whip them into such a frenzy about it being some AMAZING experience. He isnt a child that can easily go back to sleep once he's awake so thats been us this morning.

Mothernerd its good to hear there is support for you out there if you decide you want to tap into it. But also sounds like you know what you need to do anyway which ia half the battle.

Comiserations to all those who were following Wales in the football.

7 days into our challenge already. Keep checking in each day everyone, & telling us all your highs and lows. It helps with motivation & you even learn a new thing every day (fuddle)

    Morning everyone,

Racked another NSD yesterday. Was just too busy with work to do anything else haha. Today should, in fact will, be another NSD :)

Determined to get rid of everything in the fridge/freezer before I spend on food - and that's my tip for the day.

I am hoping for a NSD today - I did just give 80p to the lovely homeless lady that I pass on the way to work but I am treating that as an act of kindness rather than a spend. I didn't actually realise I had 80p in my purse so it is like it was never there now.

So today I am grateful that I have a home, enough food to eat well and a job to pay for all the things we need. Even though things are tight sometimes we can still afford holidays and days out so I am luckier than most. I've just found out I'm personally in the top 2.5% on the Global Rich List, and as a family we're in the top 0.29% which really is food for thought. If you'd like to do the same you can look here: http://www.globalrichlist.net/

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are from stores, and I will be straight home after work. Pilates at lunchtime so no spends there.

    Have happy days all.
