I MAY be wrong ,but I don't think that they will let you join now as a new customer UNLESS you take a Sky Q package - how long ago were you last a customer ??

When we moved about five years ago OH signed up as a new customer because deals at that time were very much in favour of new customers.

She is now getting a bit fed up of haggling every year. She cancelled over a month ago and doesn't want to haggle in August for sports channels she never watches!

Could have let it go off, however last years deal ends soon, and next month has been billed at the full cost (£80). To save the £58, we needed to act quick, lock in the deal and get that bill reduced.

With the free month, recovering the £58 is equates to £15.70 each month (for 12 months) on this package. I fully expect a Sky Sports offer to drop into the inbox soon.

Letting it go off - We need to set a calander reminder to cancel it next year, otherwise we will be faced with the same problem next year.

You wouldn't have lost anything, as any payment for service not taken would have been refunded.

I left with over £20 in credit, but didn't get it physically refunded as I rejoined before the next bill time, when the refund would have been calculated. However,it was refunded to the account,so went towards future bills.

Those of us who used the 'left within 12 months ' link got (very good) offers with the existing box. It saved Sky the cost of supplying a new box and the installation work.

If you've been away longer and called (wouldn't be able to use TCB etc) , I think they would make a deal, rather than have no custom.

My son 'left' (just tv) a few weeks ago and got an all round 60% off on fibre, tv and line.

Sky won't treat you as a new customer anyway, if you only cancelled a month ago -but as per teddysmum, you should be able to negotiate a really good deal via "come back to Sky" links.:)

Upon cancellation, giving 31 days notice the bill was reduced from £80 to £69. The £69 still had to be paid, as our offer expired on 5th June with the 31 days expiring in July.

We would have had to pay the bill either way. The only way to save was to get a deal before the 5th June and recalculate that bill.

It's worth checking your bill if you haggle close to your contract end date. (Due to advance billing at the non-discounted rate)

I took me two live chats and three phone calls to get £17 overcharge back!

60% off here for the TV package - movies, sport, HD Channels etc at £35.60. I left it until my switch off day to accept but didn't want to miss out on the Lions matches coming up so took it.

They wouldn't let me have Sky Q at 60% off, that would have cost twice as much for the 1tb and quite a bit more for the 4k so I left it. It would have been nice but I'm not that bothered about it just yet. Will revisit when I get a 4k tele!

Is Live chat still available ? I've been trying to use it to cancel Sky since Friday and it just say "busy please wait". Never changes to anything else.

Two days before cut off I managed to get via chat:
Boxsets, Sports, Sports HD pack, Movies and Multiroom for £44 per month, no contract plus £50 cashback...making it £39.83 per month...not too shabby. I wonder if I'd have got an even better deal if I'd waited 'til cut off? I have my BB offer due to expire in august so the 'no contract' bit will undoubtedly be useful in renegotiation.

Do use the chat more than once if you don't get the offer you want, I used it three times and the first guy wouldn't give me any serious discount at all...miserable git!

Try one of the other live chat options rather than just cancellations, that's what I do.
