I would agree if you can get SKYQ for free why not, if it ever breaks, you get a new one free, don't need to worry when the old SKY HD box will stop working now.

But the box is not yours - so when negotiating renewals you can't use the cancel/wait a few weeks route because they chase up the return of the Q box whereas you can use a Sky HD box as a Freesat tuner if nothing else.

We were on the Sky Entertainment package with a old Sky+ box paying £29/month.
We cancelled the other month and have just accepted the following come back deal via web chat

    Sky Signature £13 (18 months)
Free 1TB Sky Q Box and install
Netflix Basic £4 (31 days notice)

Sadly, they wouldn’t waive the £10 admin fee.
Does anyone have any tips regarding upgrading to Sky Q? From some of the previous posts, it seems the type of STB or dish installed might be important for some reason and one should keep hold of the old Sky + box?
I think you mean LNB not STB (or STD😁😁)? SkyQ needs a wideband LNB which is not the same as the old SkyHD Box one. The dish will probably be OK. As there is no self install option for SkyQ, if you go in that direction the installer will sort this all out for you.

I still have mine, they didn't take it away, I can always use this or any freesat box if one wishes.

As long as you have a hybrid LNB  - If the fitter has changed to a Q only LNB then the HD box won't work!

I just wanted to let you know my experience. I negotiated an upgrade to Sky Q and superfast broadband at £10 less than I'd been paying before and was happy enough with that.

Then I read this thread and decided I'd agreed too early so I followed the link to online chat and said although I don't want to leave, I would like for instance HD free of charge as a friend had been offered it.  I thought it would probably be better to have an offer in mind.
Eventually he came back with £4 off TV and £2 off broadband, so I got my £6 discount overall.

So I used to pay £71 with box sets and HD.  Now I've got Sky Q (1TB box) and superfast broadband (we'll see if that actually works!) for £55.
    I think I'm happy with that  :)

    Of course:
    Sky Signature £25
    Sky HD £2
    Broadband Superfast £25
    Broadband boost £3
Line Rental and pay as you talk - Free

  • I gave my notice yesterday. In case it helps anyone, the deal I have been offered on 18 month contract is:
    Signature £21 (down from £25)
    Then optional extras:
    • Kids £2 (down from £5)
    • Cinema £5 (down from £19?)
    • Sports £12 (down from £30)
    • Ultimate TV £6 (no discount)
    • HD £1 (down from £6)
    • UHD £2 (down from £4)
I only actually want signature & HD  (if anything) so I'm waiting for that to come down to £15.

historically looking on here you could have got signature for £15 ish, and superfast fibre from £20

Broadband boost is a gimmick imo, but personal preference.

I think you could do better, especially as you have fibre as well, so you have more negotiating power
