I'm currently on Player TV with 100Mbps broadband, weekend calls and line rental with my contract due to end shortly.

Called today and was offered £36.00 per month on a 12 month contract but the price fixed for 18 months.

Does anyone know if I should be able to do better than this ?

I would think so, but you have to put in your cancellation and await the call back. Read back on here and other forums - there is an established method for getting the better deals.

I have some credit on my account from recent friend referrals which I would lose if I put in my cancellation (which they will know) - I wouldn't want to risk that so I'm stuck with any offers before putting in my cancellation.

I've had a quick search and can't find the answer to my question, which is this: we have been with Virgin since Telewest days, and overall I'm happy with the "up to" 200mb internet provision, although the router leaves a lot to be desired.
We literally NEVER use a landline - in fact, we don't even have a phone in the house any more - so firstly, we're paying £19 a month for absolutely nothing there.
Secondly, over the past year or two the kids have stopped watching the extra channels that we got with the Full House package, so now the only channels we actually watch are BBC/ITV/C4 etc, plus Sky 1 which we can still get on NowTv.
So we're also paying a small fortune for lots of telly which we don't watch, and a line rental that is totally redundant. My question is, how likely would it be that I could get a deal from Virgin for just internet alone? And would I end up saving much? Our contract is up next month which is why I'm only starting to think about it now.

You didn't mention how much you are currently paying to give any comparison, but when I called them for a deal recently they said it would be more expensive not to have the landline because you get a bundle discount.

It sounds as though you could downgrade your TV package from Full House to Player TV though.

Thanks, we pay £67 a month, I'm not entirely sure how that breaks down but I do know the line rental is £19 so that makes £48 for TV and broadband doesn't it.
I will phone up and ask tomorrow. Chances are it might end up cheaper to keep the line rental and some TV, rather than just pay for broadband. I'll update when I've spoken to them.

It's my turn to play the retentions game. Verdicts appreciated please.

    Currently on:
    Vivid 150 (I'm aware this no longer exists, it's 100 or 200)
    TV Mix
    Weekend phone

Introductory price of £36 is now £58.99, and definitely not affordable.

I'd prefer to stay with VM. I like the channels I get on TV Mix. My speed test was 138, so they are delivering close to 150. The best broadband speed BT will offer around here is 80Mb, and I've learnt from past experience to take BT quoted speeds with a pinch of salt, and it'll be half that on a good day.

Spoke to inbound retentions today. They offered:
    Vivid 100
    TV Mix
V6 box (Currently free, +£20 activation anyway)
No phone line (Not a problem, we don't use it)

£40 per month with £50 one off credit, so £35.83ish per month, effectively.

Told the nice lady I'd think about it, but I'm tempted to cancel and hold out for the outbound retentions call. However, I've not seen many retention offers for bundles similar to mine recently, which is making me a bit panicky. Has anyone got any thoughts?

    I have a v6 and tivo box
    200mg bb
    Many phone
    Xl tv
    Was paying
    £30.00 (loyalty discounts 16yrsplus)
At first the very best they said would be downgrade to 100mb everything else the same £54.00 I rejected.
I then discovered current new customer deal is 2 v6 boxes and this deal £55 so I complained were was the loyalty? Phone call today keep everything as is and replace tivo for. 2nd v6 box £34 12months.
Hand snapped off happy for another 12months then game starts again!
    ALWAYS GIVE 30DAYS NOTICE.
And remember if you not happy then complain (the ceo office is your friend).
  • Gave 30 days notice and was disconnected yesterday.
Called in this morning for new connection and after haggling I got
    100mb
    bt sport
    sky sport for 3 month
TV with loads of channels I will never watch
    land line
for 38quid/month plus 20quid for activation.
I'm back online now and all good to go.

I don't think the £55 new customer deal includes two v6 boxes, only the one.

I'm on a similar package to yourself except with 100mb BB so I'll need to call soon to try and get a better deal. Can I ask what other deals you quoted with Sky, etc, to get offered this deal? Thanks.
  • I have the same current deal (Full House, 200mb, Talk Weekends for £35). Told them I wanted to cancel and was offered for £50/month. Rejected this as too expensive still (It's a good deal but if that's the opening offer and seeing your offer they can obviously go better) so continued with the cancellation. Let's see if I get the call!
