Almost 3 weeks now and still not had a call back. I think I've been forgotten, so I'm looking at alternatives in earnest now.

Just sweat it out as I did I heard nothing so I called them yesterday said I could not remember my cancellation date I had a call today from outbound they offered the same as I have now which I am paying £50 per month then due to go up in November.

For £25 per month can't believe it has halved....

    Good luck

    Virgin saga so far -
    Gave notice
Call from retentions offering - Player TV
    Weekend Calls
    100 mb - £29.00
    or 200 mb - £34.00
New superhub and new TiVo (our equipment is ancient)

Said I needed to think about it and didn't get a call back.
    Ended up being cut off.
Telephoned 7th Oct to explain I had been awaiting a call from retentions blah blah blah. Told him the offer and he apologised said he would add the deal etc.
Yesterday I had this email -
    Bundle charges
    Talk Weekends
    Mix TV
    TiVo Monthly Fee
    SuperFibre 70
    Bundle charges total
    £53.61
    Phone line rental
    Telephone Line Rental
    Phone line rental total
    £19.00
    New monthly package total*
    £72.61

Which is obviously not what I was offered on the phone and no new equipment has arrived or old asked for.

I telephoned this morning and after talking to 3 people (2 who I am sure didn't understand what I was talking about) I have now had a disconnection notice added to my account and I have to wait for outbound to ring me because the sales team can't offer me the same deal.

    YIKES !!

I am starting to wish I had moved to SKY or BT.

It's the "thinking of leaving us option" when you call virgin. That's inbound retention and you give them your 30 day notice to get a call from outbound retentions who have the better offers.

  • Been with virgin for 8 years..
Currently paying over £100 for VIP bundle including line rental. Cancelled with the price increase last week...Had some missed calls from virgin so phoned up inbound retentions (turned out it wasn't them who was phoning)...Best offer they gave was £100 a month.

1st call to "thinking of leaving us option"

Used renewal of Line Rental Saver as reason for call and mentioned Plusnet's current price of £24.99 for 38meg fibre.

    50meg + Weekends only phone

Before call - £40.47 (Odd price, been with them for a while and that's what it ended up as after discounts ended a few months back)
After call - next year equivalent to £28.33 so long as I renewed the line rental saver which I did then and there.

I know people have reported better, but this was done in a single call with no need to give notice.
Do Money Saving sites make you buy more bargains - and spend more money?

That's decent but you could have had it for £20 had you given your notice.

Considering giving this a go. I'm on player tv 100mb broadband and evening and weekends, which is going from 40 to 43.50 with price increases. My only queries are 1. does the retention deal apply if you give your notice during the price increase cancellation period or am I better waiting until my contract expires in December and then going through the process.
    2. Do I need to engage another supplier to get the best deal ?

    thanks

Makes no difference if you cancel now or December. You don't have to engage another supplier.
