Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

That's nonsense about FTTP I'm afraid, only the altnets who have their own infrastructure have a symmetrical service where UL & DL are similar. Any ISP who uses Openreach are asymmetrical only (around 10% DL speed compared to UL). Sky do use Cityfibre where available but that only accounts for around 1-3% of their customer base.

Thanks. I based my comment on people I know with FTTP, but it turns out none of them are on Openreach!

My contract ends late October and on Friday I received a call supposedly from Virgin saying as my contract was near expiring then they wanted to offer me a new one. Didn’t get very far as signal cut out just as she was asking me to confirm my name and didn’t receive a further call.
If this was actually Virgin it’s the first time they’ve called without me cancelling. Has anyone else had a similarly timed call?0 -
Just usually get calls from "Virgin Media" from someone who clearly isn't a native English speaker, claiming the there is a problem with my internet connection. Don't even bother swearing at them now, just hang up, but I don't think any have claimed my contract is near ending.
I had to contact them last time my contract was nearing its end and negotiate a better deal.

Yeah I’ve had a couple of those scam calls from someone claiming to be from BT before. Will see if Virgin try again before my 30 days starts when I’d be calling them myself anyway. Won’t be giving them my personal details though so doubt the call will progress v far.

Yes, I've had the Virgin ones frequently. They are more interested in adding extra services for more money than giving a discount. When I tell them I just want to pay less for my existing service they end the call. I have had an email offer for £3 per month more but I'll wait and phone them nearer the time.

I tried this number last night 02037436970 without any luck, was advised to call the general VM number.
Currently on £24.50 for 250MB broadband only, have been offered a couple of deals via email, but not happy with yearly increases.
Then spent about half an hour talking to an foreign agent, who eventually offered me a "£25" increase.
So much for let me see what I can do etc.
so, to cut the chase I gave my 30 days notice.
didn't even transfer to retentions either, which they have done in the past.
Not long afterwards I got a call from You Fibre, I had literally just enquired minutes earlier
£20 a month with NO price increase.
Just waiting now to see if VM call me back or not
** Slight update, recived an email today from retentions rather strange.
As the number they want me to call on is the original number I called them on, only to be advised to call VM.
Surprised they never called me, as they have in the past and usually pretty sharpish.
Lets see what tomorrow brings.

Currently on ~£29 for M125 BB, and my contract ends at the end of the month
Got an offer in my online account for around the same, and I left that. Then it dropped to ~£26, which I also left.
After some procrastination I got onto the online chat to see if they would do me a better deal. I told them I was thinking of leaving for a cheaper price elsewhere. Inexplicably the first they offered me was more expensive than they were already offering me in my account! Then they dropped the offer to £24 but wouldn't go any further. I rejected that also, and they asked if I wanted to go ahead with the cancellation, and I said yes, so it was done.
The very next morning I received a call from a guy from retentions who pretty much straight away offered me £19, which I snapped up. I'd heard that was the best price you could get out of them, and that was my target from beginning.
I didn't really have any intention of leaving. It was just a ploy to get them to drop the price.2 -
I've always noticed when negotiating with virgin media when your contract comes to an end that their outbound retentions team are very competitive and can offer some very good deals it's partly why I might persuade my parents to make the switch over to them from sky it does make the haggling worth it in my experience with them when I was a virgin customer

Been that way for years. Now they're pushing customers into 24 month contracts, so if you've negotiated a good deal it's with you for 2 years (plus the annual increase of course).
