Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

Strange way of doing things with VM, but WOW it was quick and painless!

Reported a fault with my VM Hub 5 on WhatsApp. I sent them the logs from the Router and was dealt with in minutes. A replacement Hub 5 was sent out yesterday and arrived today! (1 day ahead of predicted arrival)

After the WhatsApp chat about the Router the person noticed my Contract runs out in September (£116 » £234).
I said I was interested in their "special" offer. £168 they came back with.
I politely said "No Thanks". They then referred my WhatsApp chat to someone else.
The next person came back with £84 for exactly the same as Im paying for now at £116:

• 1Gig
• Two Tivo 360 Boxes
• Sky Sports, Cinema & TNT HD
• Phone
• 2 x Pods

I dropped the UHD as its not that great on my TVs. Im a Volt Customer. Unlimited SIM for £10.

Within in an Hour I had saved £22 a month and got a replacement Hub 5. All on a WhatsApp chat, much easier to manage whist working.

Retentions offered the below to upgrade from a broadband only contract (contract ends in a month). Had Sky for Tv and virgin for broadband as sky could only provide 17mb. Looking to now consolidate all to Virgin.

1gbps internet
Mega TV
Sky Sports + Cinema
Netflix Standard
2 Boxes

£58.99 a month

UHD is an extra £7 a month if taken.

Seems pretty good?! Or are others seeing better options?

Some of us have been offered similar packages around the £51/£52 mark with landline and any time calls so you may be able to squeeze a little more if you feel like persevering with the negotiation!

Today i saw that my mum has been paying £108 per month for the last 12 months as she didn't realise she was out of contract (she got emails but isn't great with technology and hadn't seen it. This was just for Broadband 350 and a landline with anytime chatter! an absolutely extortionate amount for what it was in my opinion, regardless of being out of contract. I've got involved today and helped her haggle online - the first person was of no use whatsoever but when we asked online to be put through to cancellations after some back and forth she ended up with the exact same package for £36 a month - I'm happy to have gotten the price down but also frustrated that over atleast the last 12 months she has effectively paid £700 more than she needed to have done! We did point that out when speaking to cancellations so i'm not sure if that has had some bearing on their final offer ( they'd originally gone to £55 ) as the price we have now matches what the offer for new customers is.

Sadly, that is how many companies, not just VM, treat their customers. Hook them in with a good offer, and a certain percentage will just let the automatic renewal go through at whatever grossly inflated price they set. I have no idea what that percentage is, but it must be enough to make a decent profit. Then they can genuinely say "our standard price is £xx, but we are offering 2/3 off".

I accepted a new deal with Community Fibre and finally left Virgin Media. As a loyal customer, prices were forever increasing and although discounted, my broadband service was slow. I work from home and have lots of equipment that need broadband - TV, security cameras, laptops, tablets, phones,etc

The difference is amazing! I realised I don't need Virgin Media or any other. My Smart TV can link to specialist channels like SKY/Netflix, etc if I want to purchase anything. Virgin Media broadband is very expensive - this was my area of concern and not TV.

However, I am receiving loads of phone calls daily from Virgin Media . Their offer packages were all TV based but the broadband offer is their slowest broadband for a higher price👎️

Some people are afraid to switch after being with a provider like VM for so long. They say things that would scare people off switching providers ie emails. All NOT true - my work laptop-emails, phones, etc were easy to reset and ready to go. 🎉

M125 Only - What Deal Have You Secured?

I'm in the last week of my contract and was previously getting M125 at £19, until the April price hike took it to £22.50. So I wondered what deals people have struck for M125 only? I'll likely try the 6970 number.

I was offered it as Volt M250 for £19 last month. That offer came via SMS around two weeks after I gave my 30 days notice - I never received a call from retentions. I was surprised they continued with my Volt boost, as I left O2 12 months ago.

I just tried the 6970 number, best they could offer was £19 for M125, increasing by £4 in 2027 & £4 in 2028. I asked about Volt M250 - he said the BB price would be the same but that I'd have to pay £12.99 on top for the SIM. Went through to cancellations & the best they could offer was M125 for £21.50. So I placed my cancellation.

You should hopefully get a better offer. I get M250 plus landline with anytime calls for £20/month. I didn't even have to give my cancellation notice to get that, just threatened to as I genuinely have various fibre services available now thanks to Cityfibre having dug all our pavements up a few years ago.
