powerful_Rogue said:Thanks for the response, very interesting to read. Been 8 days now and still no call from the outbound retentions department. Will have to see whether I actually get a call or not!On a side note, we will be moving house at the end of November, which is also in VM area so no concerns there. If my partner signed up as a new customer at the new address, would we still be able to port our VM home phone number which is in my name? Guessing not, but worth asking!Someone outlined that approach recently (inc referral monies): https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6207963/how-to-stay-with-virgin-media-with-the-best-deal-reserved-for-new-customerBut they don't mention anything about porting phone number, and I'm not sure.0

Our contract is ending on December 3rd so we phoned Virgin Media yesterday.
Have been a customer since Telewest days.
After being disconnected from the call twice and speaking to 3 people they still weren’t offering anything. They were actually offering us to stay on the same and pay more! We got though to retentions who only offered a £1 discount!
We are on TV Full House, 100 Broadband and Talk Weekends for £67.50 which is going up to £80.50 in December.
Here are the problems. They said we cant have any offers as we are on an old package. Changing this would mean we have to pay more. One of the reasons of this is that we do have 2 V6 Boxes. One of these we are not paying for. It replaced the old Virgin HD box which they had to do to update their systems. So that box was replacing a free box so shouldn’t really start paying for. Any change would mean that we have to pay extra for that box.
We would also like to add an existing Virgin Mobile sim, similar to the Oomph deals but the quote for this was over £90
They put an “offer” on the notes for 7 days, which was an offer of paying more. We said we will leave so she gave the 30 days notice.
This morning we had the email about how to return the equipment.
Have I done the right thing? If Virgin don’t call back can we cancel our cancelation, how long should we wait? Im thinking that the 7 day deal is to scare us into going for it... Is the price we are on good enough? We can probably get rid of the 2nd box but as we weren’t paying for it we never did.

Not long after me posting the above Virgin called!
We got rid of the 2nd box, while on the phone he checked which one it was and said he had disconnected it. (Although it is still working)
So now we have MaxIt TV, M200 Broadband, Phone Weekends and Changed the Virgin mobile number over to 5GB data sim all for £48 for 18 months with no price rise for that period.0 -

when does the cancellation notice period start? is it 30 or 28 days before the contract ends? my contract ends on 18/12, so either way i'm getting close to it.
i would like to try my luck with retention deals, but i'm not expecting anything, because my current deal amounts to £17.75 per month (for M100 broadband only) after the promo £75 bill credit is included. so I can't expect they're going to be willing to match it in any way.
how long does it take them to call back usually after the notice is given on the phone, and all their initial offers refused? i'm willing to risk it because my partner can always jump on whatever the next best price is with virgin (as a new customer)0 -
Currently on M100 Broadband + Telephone (Talk Weekends). Paying £25 per month with contract expiry on 6th December (and price due to jump to £49 per month).
Called at 5pm to ask for a better offer and best offer was £29 (without phone). Mentioned that I could get a new contract with Vodafone for £22 plus £75 gift card. Was told this was best offer so asked to cancel. Cancellation confirmed and call ended.
Next morning I received a call asking if it was just price and what they could do to help me stay. Mentioned again Vodafone package at £22 and they offered to match this for 18 months which I accepted.
So Saving versus if I had done nothing of £432 (£24 x 18 months). Saving over what they offered me last night £126 (£7 x 18 months).
