Anyway, the day after I cancelled I received a call with a better offer.
Reminder of current package:- 100Mb + Talk Weekends + Fun TV at £63
Best offer from retentions before I cancelled:- 100Mb + Talk Weekends + Smaller TV package at £54 (reduced to £51 when I called back next day to actually cancel)
- 200Mb + Talk Weekends + Maxit TV at £44 (the usual tactic of giving more services for a lower price, so you pay even more later - no thanks! I asked for less and got...)
- 50Mb + Talk Weekends + Player/Mixit TV (base package) at £31
- 50Mb + Talk Weekends (no TV) at £26
Those options are more palatable. I just need to decide if to say with VM for TV or go for a set-top recorder or streaming box instead, as it still might be cheaper in the long-run and be more flexible than these annual renegotiations with VM.
The only problem: I was told I would be sent an SMS with the offers, and if I wanted to follow up and speak to them, I only had to reply to the text and they would call be back. But I haven't received a text! :mad:0 -
Hi
Called to give 30 days cancellation and after missing their calls, I managed to speak to someone and the best deal they could offer was the same as I am paying now before the increase next month.
After I refused there has been no more calls, are they likely to call with a different price or that's it?
Just trying to get a plan in place as don't want left without any BB over xmas.
Thanks0 -

Yes, no, maybe.
No one on here can predict what Virgin (or any other company will do), and other peoples experiences aren't going to automatically apply to you. If you really don't want to stay at their prices simply move.
Upto 36Mbps fibre deals start at around £22 per month (effective prices from about £18 with cashback & voucher deals) with the faster fibre deals around a fiver more.0 -
Hi
Thanks for replying, I been with VM a long time and they have always offered a good deal, it's just the hassle of getting another supplier out etc.
I am a full time carer and don't get a lot of time to search around etc but it maybe time to leave them.0 -

If I knocked TV off - £42 per month. I only use the BB and hardly watch TV.
I cancelled and was offered 24 hrs later - 200GB Broadband and Mixit TV (biggest one) for £44. I declined and said keep my disconnection for end of December. In hindsight maybe I should have took it. Hoping I get another call.0 -

There's a link at the top of this page for the comparison tool if you do decide to move. It'll take 5 or 10 minutes to do, if you don't want to waste time )or simply don't have the time) then I can recommend NowTV BB. It's £25 a month for up to 36Mbps fibre or £30 for the faster service, both include anytime call packages.0 -
The callback next day resulted in these offers:
- 200Mb + Talk Weekends + Maxit TV at £44 (the usual tactic of giving more services for a lower price, so you pay even more later - no thanks! I asked for less and got...)
- 50Mb + Talk Weekends + Player/Mixit TV (base package) at £31
- 50Mb + Talk Weekends (no TV) at £26
I got another call back today from someone who was oblivious to the fact I'd had already had a call back just a few days ago.
I was offered 50Mb + Talk Weekends + Player/Mixit TV (base package) at £36. This is £5 more than the previous person offered. I stated this to them and they had to check with their manager. Came back to say that it was less than new customers were offered but he could do it if I agreed there and then. I said I wanted to think about it, and that the previous agent gave me the option to request a callback by text (not that I received the text). He eventually did this, but was keen for me to agree a new deal with the usual "14-day cooling off" option. I guess they are on commission for every customer they retain...
Still tempted to take it, but will look a bit more into £22 BB with PlusNet or similar and getting a Roku streaming box with the occasional month's subscription to Netflix, NowTV etc. whenever we fancy watching something specific. Would be cheaper in the long run I suppose. Downside might be lack of HD on streaming services for BBC/ITV and so on.0 -
I'm paying about £80 for 200mb and TV XL.
I wanted to just keep the internet and even drop the speed. They lay it on thick '
- You wont be able to work with slower broadband
- Your usage is so high your work will be impacted
- We have direct fibre!
Don't believe any of it. Even 50mb is fine for loads of people all using youtube and netflix. and if you're working (web browsing, email) you could have 100 people happy on 50mb
ANYWAY
I cancelled Monday saying I was going with Sky. it's Thursday now - how long does it take retentions to get in touch? Been 4 days but I feel they are busy given black Friday.....
I'm aiming for 200mb for £29 like a poster above. £50pm saving.0 -
Update from the above post.
They just called. Lovely lady - be open and upfront about how they can keep you. It's in their interest to do so.
First offered £27pm for 100mb or £32pm for 200mb.
Got it down to £29pm for 200mb.
So total bill from about £80pm to £29pm (I got rid of the TV)0 -
